Objectives
TO PROVIDE THE STUDENTS WITH A LOT THEORETICAL AND APPLICATION KNOWLEDGE ABOUT DESIGN AND OPERATIONAL PROBLEMS RELATED TO THE ELECTRICAL POWER INDUSTRY. THE STUDENTS WILL BE INTRODUCED TO FUNDAMENTAL CONCEPTS AND PRINCIPLES OF OPERATION OF VARIOUS TYPES OF ELECTRICAL MACHINES. THE TEACHING METHOD ALLOWS TO OBTAIN BASIC CONCEPTS ON POWER SYSTEM, POWER PLANTS AND POWER ELECTRONICS APPLICATIONS.

FOR THE SUCCESSFUL ACHIEVEMENT OF THE OBJECTIVES, MATHEMATICS, PHYSICS AND ELECTROTECHNIC KNOWLEDGE HAVE REQUIRED.

INTRODUCTION TO ELECTRIC DRIVES, DEFINITION OF ELECTRIC DRIVE. APPLICATION OF ELECTRIC DRIVE TO INDUSTRY. IPOWER ELECTRONICS FOR ELECTRIC DRIVES. AC/DC CONVERTER: CONTROLLED AND UNCONTROLLED SINGLE AND THREE PHASE RECTIFIERS. DC/DC CONVERTERS: BUCK CONVERTER, BOOST CONVERTER, BUCK BOOST CONVERTER, FULL BRIDGE DC/DC CONVERTER. DC/AC CONVERTERS: INVERTER PWM AND SQUARE WAVE. INTRODUCTION TO ROTATING MACHINES. UNDERLYING CONCEPTS AND FEATURES OF ROTATING MACHINES; ROTATING FIELD PRINCIPLE; INDUCTION MACHINE. BRUSHLESS MOTOR DRIVE. PROTECTION SYSTEMS FOR MOTOR DRIVES.
Teaching Methods
THERE WILL BE LECTURES IN THE CLASSROOM AND LABORATORY ACTIVITIES. DURING THE COURSE STUDENTS ARE ORGANIZED INTO WORKING GROUPS, IN ORDER TO DEVELOP A SHORT THESIS ON A TOPIC OF THE COURSE.
Verification of learning
THE EXAM CONSISTS OF ONLY THE ORAL EXAM. DURING THE EXAMINATION IS ALSO DISCUSSED THE SHORT THESIS.
