Objectives
THE TEACHING GOAL IS TO ANALYZE THE SAME ENVIRONMENTAL SYSTEM UNDER BIOLOGICAL, CHEMICAL AND GEOPHYSICAL POINT OF VIEW, SO AS TO UNDERSTAND THE ENVIRONMENTAL PROBLEMS AND MITIGATE THE ANTHROPIC AND NATURAL CHANGES. THE TEACHING PROPOSES TO INDUCE THE SYNERGISTIC COOPERATION OF SPECIALISTS IN VARIOUS SECTORS.

THE MAIN ACQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING WILL BE:
(GEO SEGMENT)
WORKING KNOWLEDGE, WITHIN GIS FRAMEWORK, OF UNDER-EXAMINATION ENVIRONMENTAL SYSTEM CHARACTERIZATION, USING GEOGRAPHIC DATA AND REMOTE SENSING IMAGES, AND OF LANDSLIDE SUSCEPTIBILITY ASSESSMENT.
(CHEM SEGMENT)
APPLICATION KNOWLEDGE IN THE FIELD OF ENVIRONMENTAL CHEMISTRY FOR THE CHARACTERIZATION OF A SPECIFIC ENVIRONMENTAL SYSTEM USING SUITABLE INSTRUMENTS IN FIELD AND LABORATORY.
(BIO SEGMENT)
APPLICATION KNOWLEDGE IN THE FIELD OF MICROBIOLOGY FOR THE CHARACTERISATION OF A SPECIFIC ENVIRONMENTAL SYSTEM, USING APPROPRIATE METHODOLOGIES BOTH IN THE FIELD AND IN THE LABORATORY.

DEVELOPMENT OF KNOWLEDGE TO ANALYZE AND UNDERSTAND THE ISSUES ASSOCIATED WITH AN ENVIRONMENTAL SYSTEM.

THE MAIN ABILITY (I.E. THE ABILITY TO APPLY THE ACQUIRED KNOWLEDGE) WILL BE:
(GEO SEGMENT)
CARTHOGRAPHIC CHARACTERIZATION OF AN ENVIRONMENTAL SYSTEM FEATURES ASSESSMENT OF GEO-ENVIRONMENTAL RISKS ENVIRONMENTAL INDEXES FROM REMOTE SENSING IMAGES STATIC AND DYNAMIC MAPPING OF SLOPE STABILITY INDEX
(CHEM SEGMENT)
REPRESENTATION OF THE EXPERIMENTAL DATA OBTAINED FROM THE MEASUREMENTS IN THE FIELD AND LABORATORY. COMPARISON AND READ IN A CRITICAL WAY THE RESULTS OBTAINED.
(BIO SEGMENT)
REPRESENTATION OF THE EXPERIMENTAL DATA OBTAINED FROM THE MEASUREMENTS IN THE FIELD AND IN THE LABORATORY. COMPARE AND READ CRITICALLY THE RESULTS OBTAINED.

DEVELOP AN UNDERSTANDING AND ABILITY TO COMMUNICATE IN THE LANGUAGES OF SPECIFIC ENVIRONMENTAL DISCIPLINE.
Prerequisites
IN ORDER TO UNDERSTAND AND APPLY MOST OF THE COVERED TOPICS, THE STUDENT MUST HAVE ACQUIRED THE BASIC KNOWLEDGE IN THE FIELD OF

(GEO SEGMENT)
GEOSCIENCE, ENVIRONMENTAL GEOSCIENCE, ENVIRONMENTAL CARTOGRAPHY
(CHEM SEGMENT)
INORGANIC, ORGANIC AND ANALITYCAL CHEMISTRY
(BIO SEGMENT)
BIOLOGY, BOTANY AND MICROBIOLOGY

MOREOVER, FOR ALL THE SEGMENTS, BASIC KNOWLEDGE OF STATISTICS.

THERE IS NO FORMAL PREREQUISITIES.
Contents
THE TEACHING INCLUDES SOME HOURS OF LESSONS AND HOURS OF TUTORIALS ON THE FIELD AND IN THE LABORATORY DURING WHICH THE STUDENTS DIRECTLY APPLY THE NOTIONS RECEIVED DURING THE LESSONS.
THE TOPICS TO BE ADDRESSED DURING THE LESSONS CONCERN:

(GEO SEGMENT)
TOOLS FOR EVALUATING THE ENVIRONMENTAL CHANGES OF THE UNDER-EXAMINATION ENVIRONMENTAL SYSTEM TOOLS FOR ESTIMATING ENVIRONMENTAL INDICATORS TO EVALUATE THE STATUS OF THE UNDER-EXAMINATION ENVIRONMENTAL SYSTEM TOOLS FOR STATIC AND DYNAMIC MAPPING OF THE SLOPE STABILITY INDEX IN THE UNDER-EXAMINATION ENVIRONMENTAL SYSTEM
(CHEM SEGMENT)
EXPERIMENTAL APPROACH TO THE STUDY OF THE STRUCTURE AND FUNCTIONS OF THE ENVIRONMENT THROUGH CHEMICAL ANALYSIS. THE TEACHING SEGMENT IS FOCUSED ON SAMPLING, LABORATORY ANALYSIS, PROCESSING AND REPRESENTATION OF RESULTS, DRAFTING OF REPORT.
(BIO SEGMENT)
QUALITY AND MICROBIOLOGICAL ANALYSIS OF SURFACE WATERS, BATHING WATERS, WATERS FOR HUMAN USE, WASTEWATER.
SAMPLING OF THE WATERS, STORAGE AND TRANSPORT OF SAMPLE,
ISO METHODS ACCORDING TO THE LEGISLATION IN FORCE.
DETERMINATION OF TOTAL COLIFORMS, FAECAL, PSEUDOMONAS, CLOSTRIDIA, ENTEROCOCCI AND SALMONELLA.
DETERMINATION OF MOST PROBABLE NUMBER, COUNTS OF UNITS FORMING COLONIES BY FILTRATION AND/OR DIRECT PLATING ON SELECTIVE/DIFFERENTIALS MEDIA.
SEQUENCING OF DNA FRAGMENTS IDENTIFIERS OF E. COLI, MOLECULAR TYPING OF POPULATIONS OF E.COLI TAKEN ALONG THE COURSE OF THE RIVER.
Teaching Methods
THE TEACHING PROVIDES LECTURES (1 CFU) THAT WILL TAKE PLACE IN CLASSROOM WITH THE HELP OF PROJECTIONS; LESSONS IN THE LABORATORY AND IN FIELD FOR A TOTAL OF 3 CFU; INDIVIDUAL STUDY OR IN GROUP FOR THE PROCESSING OF THE DATA COLLECTED DURING THE HOURS OF THE LABORATORY.

THE LESSON FREQUENCY IS MANDATORY FOR 2/3 OF HOURS FOR EACH OF 3 CFU ASSOCIATED WITH EACH SEGMENT.
Verification of learning
ORAL EXAMINATION (ABOUT 1 AND HALF HOUR) CONSISTING IN THE PRESENTATION OF THE FINDINGS. THE STUDENTS WILL BE EVALUATED ON THE DEGREE OF DEVELOPMENT OF THEIR ANALYTICAL SKILLS AND UNDERSTANDING OF ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES, THE ABILITY TO PROCESS DATA OBTAINED DURING THE COURSE AND PRESENT THE CONCLUSIONS, AND THE ABILITY TO STUDY IN A SELF-DIRECTED WAY.
