Objectives
THE OBJECTIVES OF THE TEACHING FIT INTO THE GENERAL FRAMEWORK OF THE MASTER'S DEGREE COURSE WHICH INVOLVES TRAINING A PROFESSIONAL EXPERT IN THE FIELD OF MONITORING, EVALUATION AND MANAGEMENT OF NATURAL AND ANTHROPOGENIC RISKS AND LAND MANAGEMENT, DEEPENING THE TRAINING PROCESS UNDERTAKEN BY THE STUDENT WITH THE FIRST LEVEL DEGREE, ALLOWING THEM TO ACQUIRE A SOLID INTERDISCIPLINARY SCIENTIFIC PREPARATION ON THE DIFFERENT ASPECTS OF ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE AND AN EXCELLENT MASTERY OF THE SCIENTIFIC METHOD OF INVESTIGATION, MAKING THE GRADUATES ABLE TO APPROACH IN AN INTEGRATED AND BROADLY INDEPENDENT WAY ORGANIZATIONAL PROBLEMS IMPOSED TO THE ENVIRONMENT FROM THE NATURAL EVOLUTION OF THE TERRITORY AND ANTHROPIC INTERVENTIONS.
THE GENERAL OBJECTIVE OF THE TEACHING IS TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE TRAINING OF A PROFESSIONAL WHO IS ABLE TO WORK IN SYNERGY WITH SPECIALISTS IN DIFFERENT SECTORS AND TO PROVIDE THE STUDENT WITH KNOWLEDGE AND THE SKILLS OF APPLICATION OF THE SAME SO THAT THEY ARE ABLE TO ANALYZE ENVIRONMENTAL SYSTEMS FROM THE BIOLOGICAL (BIOLOGY SEGMENT), CHEMICAL (CHEMISTRY SEGMENT) AND GEOPHYSICAL (GEOPHYSICS SEGMENT) POINTS OF VIEW AND WHICH ALLOW THEM TO UNDERSTAND ENVIRONMENTAL PROBLEMS SO THAT THEY ARE ABLE TO MITIGATE ALTERATIONS, BOTH NATURAL AND ANTHROPIC. THE TEACHING INCLUDES A CERTAIN NUMBER OF HOURS TO BE CARRIED OUT IN THE LABORATORY AND/OR IN THE FIELD, DURING WHICH STUDENTS CAN DIRECTLY APPLY THE INFORMATION RECEIVED DURING THE LECTURES.

KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING (DUBLIN DESCRIPTOR NR. 1)
THE TEACHING HAS THE OBJECTIVE OF GIVING THE STUDENT THE TOOLS TO DEVELOP AND/OR APPLY INNOVATIVE AND ORIGINAL IDEAS, POSSIBLY ALSO IN RESEARCH FIELDS, FOR THE SETUP OF CORRECT ENVIRONMENTAL MONITORING, COMPLIANT WITH REGULATORY ASPECTS. FURTHERMORE, THE COURSE AIMS TO PROVIDE THE STUDENT WITH USEFUL KNOWLEDGE TO UNDERSTAND AND DEAL WITH CUTTING-EDGE TOPICS IN THE FIELD:
•THE CHEMICAL, PHYSICAL AND BIOLOGICAL PROPERTIES OF POLLUTANTS (CHEMISTRY/BIOLOGY SEGMENTS);

AND SOLVE PROBLEMS, IN NEW (UNFAMILIAR) AND INTERDISCIPLINARY AREAS, RELATED TO THE PHYSICAL, CHEMICAL, ENGINEERING, BIOLOGICAL, ETC. ASPECTS OF ENVIRONMENTAL POLLUTION ISSUES, ENVIRONMENTAL MONITORING AND MODELING OF THE DISPERSION OF POLLUTANTS IN THE ENVIRONMENT.

MAKING JUDGEMENTS (DUBLIN DESCRIPTOR NR. 3)
THE TEACHING HAS THE OBJECTIVE OF ENABLING THE STUDENT TO COLLECT AND INTERPRET RELEVANT DATA REGARDING THE PROBLEMS FOR A CORRECT SETUP OF ENVIRONMENTAL MONITORING AND BIOMONITORING THAT IS FULLY COMPLIANT WITH THE REGULATIONS.
IN DETAIL, THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO INTEGRATE THEIR KNOWLEDGE INDEPENDENTLY SO AS TO BETTER MANAGE THE COMPLEXITY OF THE RELATED PROBLEMS:
•TO MODELING POLLUTANTS IN THE ENVIRONMENT (CHEMISTRY SEGMENT);
•TO THE CHEMICAL MONITORING OF ENVIRONMENTAL SECTIONS (CHEMISTRY/BIOLOGY SEGMENTS);
•WRITING REPORTS WHICH CONTAIN THE RESULTS ON THE TRANSPORT, DISPERSION AND DEPOSITION OF POLLUTANTS, ALSO USEFUL FOR NON-SPECIALISTS TO DETERMINE WHICH IMPACT PROBLEMS ARE IN PLAY (CHEMISTRY SEGMENT);
•TO THE APPLICATIONS OF BIOMONITORING METHODS, MAKING JUDGMENTS ON THE BASIS OF THE DATA ACQUIRED FROM THE PROCESSING OF INFORMATION OBTAINED IN THE FIELD AND IN THE LABORATORY (BIOLOGY SEGMENT)
•CONSULTING DATABASES AND SEISMIC BULLETINS, MACHINING THE CRITICAL AND PROCESSING ABILITY ON THE COMPLETENESS OF THE INFORMATION (GEOPHYSICS SEGMENT)

COMMUNICATION SKILLS (DUBLIN DESCRIPTOR NR. 4)
THE TEACHING WILL ENABLE THE STUDENT TO COMMUNICATE CONCEPTS AND CONCLUSIONS TO SPECIALIST AND NON-SPECIALIST INTERLOCUTORS, AS WELL AS THE RATIO UNDERLYING THEM, RESULT OF THE KNOWLEDGE ACQUIRED BY THEM, REGARDING:
•MODELING THE DISPERSION OF POLLUTES IN VARIOUS ENVIRONMENTAL SECTIONS (CHEMISTRY SEGMENT);
•TO THE MONITORING OF AN ENVIRONMENTAL SYSTEM (CHEMISTRY/BIOLOGY/GEOPHYSICS SEGMENTS);
•TO THE APPLICATION OF BIOMONITORING TECHNIQUES (BIOLOGY SEGMENT);

LEARNING SKILLS (DUBLIN DESCRIPTOR NR. 5)
THE TEACHING WILL PROVIDE THE STUDENT WITH THE SKILLS NECESSARY FOR SELF-MANAGED AND INDEPENDENT STUDY, WHICH ALLOWS THEM TO FIND INDIVIDUAL PATHWAYS TO DEAL WITH COMPLEX AND MULTIDISCIPLINARY PROBLEMS RELATED TO:
•MODELING THE DISPERSION OF POLLUTES IN VARIOUS ENVIRONMENTAL SECTIONS;
•TO THE MONITORING OF AN ENVIRONMENTAL SYSTEM;
•TO THE VARIOUS ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES.
