Objectives
EXPECTED LEARNING RESULTS AND SKILLS TO ACQUIRE:
ACQUIRE KNOWLEDGE OF THE THEORY AND DESIGN OF REINFORCED CONCRETE AND STEEL BUILDINGS IN THE SEISMIC ZONE. LEARN THE THEORETICAL BASES FOR DYNAMIC ANALYSIS AND DESIGN OF BUILDINGS IN SEISMIC ZONES.

KNOW METHODS FOR EQUIVALENT STATIC ANALYSIS AND FOR DYNAMIC ANALYSIS OF STRUCTURES IN SEISMIC ZONE.

KNOWING HOW TO IDENTIFY THE MOST APPROPRIATE METHODS FOR ANALYZING A STRUCTURAL SYSTEM.

KNOW HOW TO WORK IN GROUPS AND ORALLY EXPOSE THEMES RELATED TO ANALYSIS AND STRUCTURAL DESIGN IN THE SEISMIC ZONE. KNOWING HOW TO COMMUNICATE THROUGH THE MOST MODERN GRAPHICAL TOOLS THE DESIGN SOLUTIONS IDENTIFIED.

KNOWING HOW TO APPLY THE ACQUIRED KNOWLEDGE IN DIFFERENT CONTEXTS FROM THOSE PRESENTED DURING THE COURSE AND DEEPEN THE TOPICS COVERED THROUGH THE STUDY, IN COMPLETE AUTONOMY, ABOUT MATERIALS DIFFERENT FROM THOSE PROPOSED.

DYNAMICS OF SDOF AND MDOF SYSTEMS (THEORY 25 HOURS)

SEISMIC ACTIONS (THEORY 10 HOURS): DISPLACEMENT, VELOCITY AND ACCELERATION RESPONSE SPECTRA. ITALIAN BUILDING CODE (NTC 2008). EUROCODE 8. BEHAVIOUR FACTOR.

DUCTILITY OF STRUCTURES (THEORY 5 HOURS): GLOBAL DUCTILITY, LOCAL DUCTILITY, PLASTIC REDISTRIBUTION CAPACITY, STRUCTURAL SENSITIVITY TO THE SECOND ORDER EFFECTS. COLLAPSE MECHANISMS UNDER SEISMIC ACTIONS. INTERACTION BETWEEN LOCAL AND GLOBAL DUCTILITY DUCTILITY. LOCAL DUCTILITY OF REINFORCED CONCRETE MEMBERS.

THE DISTRIBUTION OF SEISMIC ACTIONS (THEORY 5 HOURS): THE ROLE OF THE DECK IN THE PROBLEM OF THE DISTRIBUTION OF SEISMIC ACTIONS, THE CENTER OF GRAVITY OF THE MASSES AND CENTER OF GRAVITY OF STIFFNESS, THE DISTRIBUTION OF SEISMIC ACTIONS IN THE CASE OF SINGLE-STOREY BUILDINGS, THE DISTRIBUTION OF SEISMIC ACTIONS IN THE CASE OF MULTI-STOREY BUILDINGS USING THE ITERATIVE METHOD.

SEISMIC ANALYSIS OF BUILDINGS (THEORY 13 HOURS; EXERCISES 2 HOURS): THE LATERAL STIFFNESS MATRIX OF VERTICAL RESISTANT MACRO-ELEMENTS, THE LATERAL STIFFNESS MATRIX OF PLANE FRAMES: GENERAL METHOD OF STATIC CONDENSATION OF THE STIFFNESS MATRIX, THE LATERAL STIFFNESS MATRIX OF WALLS, THE PERFORATED WALLS; THEORY OF NON-UNIFORM TORSION; THE STIFFENING CORES; OPEN SECTION STIFFENING CORES; CLOSED SECTION STIFFENING CORES, THE TORSIONAL STIFFNESS MATRIX OF STIFFENING CORES; ASSEMBLING OF STIFFNESS MATRICES OF INDIVIDUAL VERTICAL RESISTANT MACRO-ELEMENTS, THE STIFFNESS MATRIX OF THE BUILDING; EQUIVALENT STATIC ANALYSIS, SPECTRAL DYNAMIC ANALYSIS.
Teaching Methods
TEACHING IS DEVELOPED BY MEANS OF LESSONS ON THEORY, EXERCISES IN THE CLASSROOM . THE HOURS OF LESSON ARE 58 WHILE 2 HOURS ARE DEVOTED TO THE EXPLANATION ON APPLICATIVE EXAMPLES.
THE THEORETICAL LESSONS AND EXERCISES ARE AIMED AT UNDERSTANDING THE BEHAVIOR OF BUILDINGS UNDER SEISMIC ACTIONS STARTING FROM THE UNDERSTANDING OF THE DYNAMIC BEHAVIOR OF THE SAME.

FOR THE STUDENTS OF BUILDING ENGINEERING ARCHITECTURE ATTENDANCE IS COMPULSORY AND IS ESTIMATED AT 70% OF THE TOTAL LECTURE HOURS. IT WILL BE VERIFIED ON THE BASIS OF THE PROVIDED ELECTRONICAL METHODS.
Verification of learning
THE EVALUATION OF THE ACHIEVEMENT OF THE OBJECTIVES SET WILL TAKE PLACE THROUGH AN ORAL EXAMINATION THAT WILL TAKE PLACE AT THE END OF THE COURSE. TO PASS THE EXAM THE STUDENT MUST DEMONSTRATE THAT HE HAS UNDERSTOOD AND KNOWS HOW TO APPLY THE MAIN CONCEPTS PRESENTED IN THE COURSE. THE VOTE, EXPRESSED IN THIRTIETHS WITH POSSIBLE HONORS, WILL DEPEND ON THE MATURITY ACQUIRED ON THE CONTENTS OF THE COURSE, ALSO TAKING INTO ACCOUNT THE QUALITY OF THE EXPOSITION AND THE AUTONOMY OF JUDGMENT DEMONSTRATED.
TO ACQUIRE THE MINIMUM GRADE (18) THE STUDENT MUST DEMONSTRATE KNOWLEDGE OF THE BASIC PRINCIPLES OF SEISMIC DESIGN, THE BASIC RELATIONSHIPS THAT REGULATE THE DYNAMICS OF SYSTEMS WITH A SINGLE DEGREE OF FREEDOM AND MULTIPLE DEGREES OF FREEDOM, THE METHODOLOGIES OF ANALYSIS OF STRUCTURAL ELEMENTS.
THE HIGHEST MARKS (30L) WILL BE AWARDED TO THOSE WHO DEMONSTRATE BRILLIANCE AND CRITICAL ABILITY IN THE EXPOSITION OF THE ARGUMENTS AND IN THE ASSOCIATION OF THE SAME
