Objectives
The activities aim to promote the acquisition of basic technical-practical skills, in support of the knowledge transmitted by the teaching of Metodologia della ricerca archeologica, useful in excavation contexts of the Classical and Medieval periods.
In particular, tools, criteria and planning strategies, useful for archaeological fieldwork, will be illustrated and applied.

No prerequisites required.
Contents
- Theoretical and practical knowledge of stratigraphic excavation and archaeological diagnostics;
- catalogue data management and the drafting of scientific documentation: ICCD formats for the description of contexts and archaeological finds (e.g. SAS, US, TMA, RA, EP etc.);
- drawing up the stratigraphic diagram (Matrix)
- methods, techniques and technologies for data acquisition, management and processing (from direct and indirect metric survey to digital data editing and compilation, etc.);
- basics of using and reading cartography (IGM, CTR, historical maps, etc.) and the information contained therein (toponymy, geographical and environmental aspects, etc.).
Teaching Methods
Lectures with powerpoint presentations; practical-exercise activities in the lab and/or excavation site.
Verification of learning
A final test is designed to verify the achievement of the objectives.
The outcome is expressed as a pass or fail (passed - not passed).
Texts
Texts and reference readings will be suggested during the activities.
