THE COURSE FOCUSES ON THE ANALYSIS OF THE STATISTICAL TOOLS USEFUL FOR THE QUANTITATIVE STUDY OF POLITICAL AND SOCIO-ECONOMIC REAL PHENOMENA. PARTICULAR EMPHASIS WILL BE GIVEN TO THOSE PROCEDURES USEFUL TO SUPPORT DECISIONS IN CONTEXTS WHERE LARGE AMOUNTS OF DATA, THEIR VARIABILITY AND UNCERTAINTY IMPLY A LEVEL OF COMPLEXITY UNMANAGEABLE USING OTHER TECHNIQUES. KNOWLEDGE OF STATISTICAL METHODS AND ITS APPLICATION TO THE ANALYSIS OF POLITICAL AND SOCIO-ECONOMIC PHENOMENA, FOR THE IMPROVEMENT OF RELATED DECISION MAKING PROCESSES. ABILITY TO ANALYZE AND INTERPRET QUANTITATIVE INFORMATION, AND TO PRODUCE INDICATORS AND REPORTS SUPPORTING THE DECISION MAKING PROCESS OF PUBLIC INSTITUTIONS (INCLUDING SUPRANATIONAL ORGANIZATIONS), NON-GOVERNMENTAL ORGANIZATIONS WORKING IN THE THIRD SECTOR AND PRIVATE COMPANIES. AT THE END OF THE COURSE, STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO FORMULATE CRITICAL JUDGMENTS ON HOW TO COLLECT DATA AND HOW TO PROCESS THE INFORMATION COLLECTED; EVALUATE THE VALIDITY, INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL, OF THE CONCLUSIONS REACHED. ABILITY TO PRESENT THE INFORMATION OF A QUANTITATIVE NATURE, EFFECTIVELY AND CLEARLY, BOTH IN ORAL AND WRITTEN FORM. |
Prerequisites | |
---|---|
IT IS REQUIRED A KNOWLEDGE OF THE BASIC PRINCIPLES OF ALGEBRA, AS PROVIDED BY THE PROGRAMS OF ALL TYPES OF UPPER SECONDARY SCHOOL. |
Contents | |

THE COURSE CONSISTS OF 60 HOURS INCLUDING LECTURES AND EXERCISES. |
Verification of learning | |
---|---|
THE EXAMINATION IS WRITTEN AND ORAL AND COVERS THE MATERIAL OF THE COURSE. THE EVALUATION OF THE EXAMINATION RESULTS WILL TAKE INTO ACCOUNT THE ARGUMENTATION CAPACITY, THE ACCURACY OF LANGUAGE AND THE ABILITY TO MAKE CRITICAL USE OF THE ACQUIRED STATISTICAL TOOLS, AS WELL AS KNOWLEDGE OF THE SUBJECT MATTER. |
