LECTURES ARE INTENDED TO STRENGTHEN THE KNOWLEDGE ON CLASSICAL AND MODERN PHYSICS. IN PARTICULAR, THE IMPORTANCE OF THE SCIENTIFIC METHOD WILL BE EMPHASIZED. ABILITIES TO TEACH PHYSICS, ALSO IN AN INTERDISCIPLINARY ENVIRONMENT, WILL BE FINALLY DEVELOPED. |
Prerequisites | |
---|---|
BASIC NOTIONS OF CLASSICAL AND MODERN PHYSICS ARE REQUIRED. |
Contents | |
---|---|
1. THE PRINCIPLES OF CLASSICAL PHYSICS WILL BE REVIEWED. APPLICATIONS OF THESE PRINCIPLES TO REAL-WORLD SITUATIONS WILL BE ILLUSTRATED (12 HOURS AND 6 HOURS OF PROBLEM SOLVING ACTIVITIES). 2. STARTING FROM THE NECESSITY TO GO BEYOND CLASSICAL PHYSICS, MODERN PHYSICS CONCEPTS WILL BE CONSIDERED. THEREFORE, SPECIAL RELATIVITY AND QUANTUM MECHANICS PRINCIPLES WILL BE REVIEWED (9 HOURS AND 3 HOURS OF PROBLEM SOLVING ACTIVITIES).. |
Teaching Methods | |
---|---|
LECTURES (FOR A TOTAL OF 30 HOURS) WILL BE ADDRESSED TO STUDENTS DURING THE COURSE. |
Verification of learning | |
---|---|
A FINAL WRITTEN EXAM WILL ASSESS ACQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS. THE WRITTEN EXAM CONSISTS IN ANSWERING, IN THREE HOURS, TO SEVEN QUESTIONS ON THE TOPICS TREATED DURING THE COURSE. THE STUDENT CAN OBTAIN THE MINIMUM GRADE (18) BY ANSWERING CORRECTLY TO TWO QUESTIONS. THE STUDENT CAN OBTAIN THE MAXIMUM GRADE (30) BY ANSWERING CORRECTLY TO SIX QUESTIONS AND BY SHOWING DEEP KNOWLEDGE OF CONTENTS AND METHODS RELATIVE TO THE TOPICS TREATED DURING THE COURSE. THE STUDENT CAN OBTAIN THE GRADE "30 CUM LAUDE" BY ANSWERING CORRECTLY TO ALL SEVEN QUESTIONS. IN THIS LATTER CASE THE STUDENT MUST ALSO SHOW TO BE ABLE TO RIGOROUSLY ELABORATE THE ANSWERS. |
