Objectives

GENERAL OBJECTIVE: THE COURSE AIMS TO CONSOLIDATE STUDENTS' BASIC COMPETENCIES IN CLASSICAL PHYSICS AND MODERN PHYSICS.
KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: THE COURSE ALLOWS TO REINFORCE AWARENESS OF THE IMPORTANCE OF THE SCIENTIFIC METHOD.
ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: THE COURSE AIMS TO PROVIDE STUDENTS WITH THE NECESSARY TOOLS FOR TEACHING PHYSICS IN A SCHOOL ENVIRONMENT.
MAKING JUDGEMENT: THE STUDENT MUST BE ABLE TO CHOOSE APPROPRIATE METHODS TO CONSTRUCT DIDACTIC PATHS, INCLUDING INTERDISCIPLINARY ONES, THAT CAN BE ADAPTED TO DIFFERENT EDUCATIONAL CONTEXTS.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS: THE STUDENT MUST BE ABLE TO COMMUNICATE RIGOROUSLY AND EFFECTIVELY THE BASIC CONCEPTS OF CLASSICAL PHYSICS AND MODERN PHYSICS.
LEARNING SKILLS: THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO DEVELOP A CRITICAL AWARENESS OF THE MAIN MODELS AND THEORIES OF CLASSICAL PHYSICS AND MODERN PHYSICS AND WILL BE ABLE TO DESIGN SPECIFIC DIDACTIC ACTIVITIES.
Prerequisites
BASIC NOTIONS OF CLASSICAL AND MODERN PHYSICS ARE REQUIRED.
Contents
THE BASIC PRINCIPLES OF THE DISCIPLINE WILL BE ILLUSTRATED, WITH PARTICULAR REFERENCE TO THE FOLLOWING TOPICS:
1. INNOVATIVE TEACHING APPROACHES AND EDUCATIONAL SOFTWARE (6 HOURS OF LECTURES).
2. PRINCIPLES OF CLASSICAL PHYSICS AND THEIR APPLICATIONS IN REAL-WORLD CONTEXTS (28 HOURS OF LECTURES).
I) MECHANICS: STUDY, USING ANALYTICAL AND NUMERICAL METHODS, OF KINEMATICS AND DYNAMICS FOR SPORTS; DYNAMICS OF RIGID BODIES.
II) THERMODYNAMICS: EXAMPLES AND MATHEMATICAL APPLICATIONS.
III) FLUID DYNAMICS: APPLICATION TO PHYSICAL AND ECONOMIC MODELS.
IV) GEOMETRIC OPTICS: PROPERTIES OF MIRRORS AND LENSES.
V) ELECTRICITY: INTERDISCIPLINARY PROBLEMS.
VI) MAGNETISM: PROBLEMS AND EXAMPLES.
VII) WAVE PHENOMENA.
VIII) LIGHT AND COLORS.
3. MODERN PHYSICS (14 HOURS OF LECTURES).
I) EINSTEINIAN RELATIVITY.
II) RELATIVISTIC EXTENSION OF THE SECOND LAW OF DYNAMICS.
III) "CLASSIC" EXPERIMENTS OF MODERN PHYSICS.
IV) NEED FOR A QUANTUM THEORY.
V) BOHR'S ATOM.
Teaching Methods
LECTURES (FOR A TOTAL OF 48 HOURS) WILL BE ADDRESSED TO STUDENTS DURING THE COURSE. ATTENDANCE TO THE COURSE IS NOT MANDATORY.
Verification of learning
A FINAL WRITTEN EXAM, TOGETHER WITH AN ORAL EXAM, WILL ASSESS ACQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS.

THE WRITTEN EXAM CONSISTS IN ANSWERING, IN TWO HOURS, TO THREE PROBLEMS ON THE TOPICS TREATED DURING THE COURSE.

THE STUDENT CAN OBTAIN THE MINIMUM GRADE (18) BY ANSWERING CORRECTLY TO ONE PROBLEM AND SHOWING THAT HE IS ABLE TO COMPLETELY SOLVE, DURING THE ORAL SESSION, AT LEAST ONE OTHER PROBLEM. A SUFFICIENT KNOWLEDGE OF THE TOPICS PROPOSED DURING THE COURSE IS REQUIRED.

THE STUDENT CAN OBTAIN THE MAXIMUM GRADE (30) BY ANSWERING CORRECTLY TO THREE PROBLEMS AND BY SHOWING, DURING THE ORAL SESSION, DEEP KNOWLEDGE OF CONTENTS AND METHODS RELATIVE TO THE TOPICS TREATED DURING THE COURSE.

THE STUDENT CAN OBTAIN THE GRADE "30 CUM LAUDE" BY ANSWERING CORRECTLY TO THREE PROBLEMS AND BY SHOWING, DURING THE ORAL SESSION, MARKED ORIGINALITY AND LOGICAL RIGOR IN ANSWERING TO QUESTIONS. IN ADDITION, THE STUDENT MUST ALSO SHOW TO BE ABLE TO SOLVE AT LEAST ONE OF THE THREE PROBLEMS WITH TWO DIFFERENT METHODS.
