Objectives | |

THE COURSE AIMS TO PROVIDE THE METHODOLOGICAL TOOLS NECESSARY FOR THE ANALYSIS AND DESIGN OF A WIRELESS SYSTEM FROM THE ELECTROMAGNETIC POINT OF VIEW. IN THIS CONTEXT IT PRESENTS THE MAIN TECHNIQUES FOR THE CHARACTERIZATION OF THE ANTENNAS AND THE ANALYSIS OF THE PROPAGATION MECHANISMS IN THE TRANSMISSION LINES AND THE ENVIRONMENT IN WHICH THE WIRELESS SYSTEM IS LOCATED. KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING AT THE END OF THE COURSE THE UNDERGRADUATE MUST KNOW: - THE PROPAGATION IN TRANSMISSION LINES, - THE PARAMETERS OF SINGLE ANTENNAS AND ARRAYS, - THE PROPERTIES OF THE ELECTROMAGNETIC WAVES, - THE BASIC PROPAGATION MECHANISMS, - THE MODELS FOR INDOOR AND OUTDOOR PROPAGATION. APPLIED KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: AT THE END OF THE COURSE THE UNDERGRADUATE MUST BE ABLE: - TO CHOOSE THE CABLE AND THE ANTENNA TO BE USED, - TO EVALUATE THE RADIATED FIELD OF THE ANTENNA, - TO QUANTIFY REFLECTION AND TRANSMISSION IN PRESENCE OF OBSTACLES, - TO COMPUTE THE PATH LOSS AND TO DETERMINE THE LINK BUDGET RELATED TO THE PROPAGATION MODEL. |

THE KNOWLEDGE OF MATHEMATICS AND PHYSICS BASICS IS REQUIRED FOR THE SUCCESSFUL ACHIEVEMENT OF THE COURSE GOALS. THE VECTOR ANALYSIS, THE INTEGRAL AND DIFFERENTIAL CALCULUS ARE INDISPENSABLE REQUIREMENTS OF MATHEMATICS. THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE MAXWELL'S EQUATIONS IS REQUIRED. |

THE TEST INCLUDES QUESTIONS ABOUT THE TOPICS DISCUSSED DURING THE COURSE AND IT IS EVALUATED SUFFICIENT IF THE APPROACH IS ADEQUATE AND THE RESULTS ARE NOT EXACT, IT IS EXCELLENT IF THE APPROACH IS ADEQUATE AND THE RESULTS ARE EXACT. |
