Objectives
The course aims at providing to the students the basic knowledge of Agricultural Economics and Policy, essential to the development of skills in describing, analyzing and interpreting the main problems of the agricultural enterprises in the general economic context and in a national and EU perspective.

The main knowledge will be:
- basic elements of Agricultural Economy and Policy
- economic structure of the agricultural sector
- the statistical sources of the agricultural sector
The main skills acquired:
- to apply the typical methods of the agricultural economy to the analysis of the farms;
- to use the main agricultural policy tools in accordance with the guidelines of the National and EU Agricultural Policy
Prerequisites
The student must have basic knowledge in mathematics and socio-economics provided by the high school curriculum.
Contents
Lectures
2 Credits (14 hours)
- Agriculture in the general economic system.
- Diversification and quality products.
- The agricultural enterprises, the production function (flexible and fixed coefficients).
- The production function with two variable factors.
- Classification of production factors.
2 Credits (14 hours)
- Production costs in the short and long term.
- The business and industry supply curve.
- Demand for productive factors and long-term equilibrium.
- Production factors and the economic balance.
1 Credit (7 hours)
- Classroom exercises on the analysis of the economic balance and its factors and parameters.
1 Credit (7 hours)
- National and EU Agricultural Policy.
Teaching Methods
The course includes a total of 6 Credits (42 hours): 5 Credits (35 hours) of lectures and 1 credit (7 hours) of classroom exercises
Verification of learning
Knowledge and abilities acquired by the students during the course will be evaluated through:
-two inter-course written tests, including 5 open questions on the topics related to the first 4 credits (2 credits + 2 credits), with a maximum score of 30/30 (minimun 18/30 to pass the tests).
- an oral interview on the remaining topics of the programme, including also the classroom excercise the for a maximum score of 30/30 (minimum 18/30 to pass it).

For students who have not taken the inter-course written tests, or have passed only one of the written test,s the final evaluation is based on an oral interview on the entire program of the course or on the remaining part of the topics of the course.
