Objectives
GENERAL LEARNING OUTCOMES:
THE AIM OF THE COURSE IS TO PROVIDE THE APPROPRIATE TOOLS FOR A SCIENTIFIC APPROACH TO THE PERFORMANCE TEXT WHICH IS TO SAY TO DEVELOP THE ABILITY TO RECOGNIZE THE STRATIFICATION OF MEANINGS AND THE INTERACTION OF CODES IN USE AND TO MASTER THE SPECIFIC ANALYTICAL METHODOLOGIES.

KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING:
THE STUDENT WILL LEARN TO EXAMINE PERFORMANCE THROUGH VARIOUS METHODOLOGICAL APPROACHES, FROM HISTORICAL THROUGH TO SEMIOLOGICAL, SOCIOLOGICAL, ANTHROPOLOGICAL, WITH A VIEW TO BEING ABLE TO READ A PERFORMANCE IN ITS ENTIRETY. IN THIS WAY THE STUDENT WILL UNDERSTAND THE COMPLEXITY OF THEATRICAL-ARTISTIC LANGUAGE.

APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
THE STUDENT WILL DEVELOP THE ABILITY TO IDENTIFY AND EVALUATE THE SPECIFIC AND CHARACTERISTIC ELEMENTS OF THEATRICAL-ARTISTIC PRODUCTION.

MAKING JUDGMENTS:
STUDENTS WILL DEVELOP CONCEPTUAL TOOLS AND CRITICAL SKILLS FOR AUTONOMOUSLY ANALYZING AND INTERPRETING METHODOLOGICAL AND HISTORICAL ISSUES, SOURCES AND TEXTS OF VARIOUS OTHER ARTISTIC DISCIPLINES.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS:
STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO COMMUNICATE THEIR KNOWLEDGE BOTH TO AN AUDIENCE OF EXPERTS AND TO ONE OF NON-SPECIALISTS, WITH PROPERTY OF LANGUAGE AND APPROPRIATE VOCABULARY, AND USING THE MOST APPROPRIATE KIND OF LANGUAGE FOR EACH CIRCUMSTANCE.

LEARNING SKILLS:
STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO UNDERSTAND AND INTERPRET COMPLEX TEXTS AND USE BIBLIOGRAPHIC TOOLS TO IDENTIFY AND SELECT THE SCIENTIFIC LITERATURE USEFUL FOR INCREASING THEIR KNOWLEDGE.

THE COURSE IS DIVIDED INTO TWO PARTS: THE FIRST, THEORETICAL, INTRODUCES THE STUDENTS TO THE IDEA OF THE PLAY AS A PROCESS AND AS A PHENOMENON TO BE INVESTIGATED GLOBALLY (CONTESTING IT IN BELONGING TO CIVILIZATION) AND UNITEDLY (BY OVERCOMING EPISTEMOLOGICAL SECTORIALISM TO BREAK THE COMPLEXITY OF THEATRICAL COMMUNICATION). THE SECOND ONE, DESTINED FOR A CONCRETE METHODOLOGICAL EXEMPLIFICATION, FEATURES THE VIDEO RECORDING OF FOUR CRITICALLY ACCLAIMED PLAYS.

Verification of learning
IN AN ORAL EXAM THE STUDENT WILL CONDUCT AN ANALYSIS OF A VIDEO-RECORDED PERFORMANCE CHOSEN FROM A SHORTLIST OF WORKS EXAMINED DURING THE COURSE; IN ADDITION THE CANDIDATE WILL BE QUESTIONED ON THE EXAM BIBLIOGRAPHY RELATING TO METHODOLOGICAL ANALYSIS. THE LEVEL OF KNOWLEDGE ACHIEVED AS WELL AS THE APPROPRIATENESS AND ORIGINALITY OF EXPLANATION WILL BE ASSESSED.
