THE COURSE AIMS TO PROVIDE STUDENTS WITH THE PRACTICAL ELEMENTS OF THE BASIS FOR THE USE APPLICATION OF SPECTROSCOPIC AND SPECTROMETRIC TECHNIQUES IN STRUCTURE DETERMINATION OF ORGANIC MOLECULES. AFTER A BRIEF REVIEW OF THE MAIN THEORETICAL CONCEPTS OF SPECTROSCOPY, IR, NMR AND MASS SPECTROMETRY, WILL BE ADDRESSED IN DETAIL THE RATIONAL APPROACH TO SOLVING STRUCTURAL PROBLEMS IN THE FIELD OF ORGANIC AND BIO-ORGANIC, THROUGH THE COMBINED USE OF SPECTROSCOPIC AND SPECTROMETRIC (IR, MS, NMR, UV). STUDENTS WILL BE GUIDED IN THE COURSE OF INDIVIDUAL AND SMALL GROUP EXERCISES, TO DEAL WITH THE INTERPRETATION OF IR SPECTRA, MS AND NMR OF UNKNOWN COMPOUNDS AND TO DEVELOP THEIR ANALYTICAL SKILLS AND INTERPRETIVE. IN ADDITION, STUDENTS WILL HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO VISIT THE LABORATORIES OF THE DEPARTMENT OF SPECTROSCOPY, CHECK THE AVAILABLE EQUIPMENT AND UNDERSTAND HOW TO USE AND POTENTIAL APPLICATIONS. |

THE ACQUISITION OF THE OBJECTIVES FOR THE FOLLOWING DISCIPLINES IS REQUIRED: ORGANIC CHEMISTRY I AND II, PHYSICAL METHODS IN ORGANIC CHEMISTRY. THEY ARE ALSO REQUIRED GENERAL KNOWLEDGE OF MATHEMATICS, PHYSICS, GENERAL CHEMISTRY, PHYSICAL CHEMISTRY. |
