Objectives
THE COURSE WILL GIVE BASIC THEORETICAL AND PRACTICAL KNOWLEDGE OF DIGITAL IMAGE FORMATION AND PROCESSING, FOR THEIR USE IN DIGITAL PHOTOGRAMMETRIC AND REMOTE SENSING SURVEY, IN THE FRAME OF CARTOGRAPHY PRODUCTION, 3D MODELLING AND ENVIRONMENTAL MONITORING. THE COURSE FOCUSES ON DEVELOPING STUDENT KNOWLEDGE OF GEOGRAPHIC DATA ANALYSIS CONCEPTS, METHODS, AND TOOLS. AIM OF THE COURSE IS TO PROVIDE AN EXHAUSTIVE FRAME ABOUT GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION: FROM ACQUISITION, TO VALIDATION, PROCESSING AND ANALYSIS AND INTERNET GIS. STUDENTS ARE ASKED TO LEARN SOME COMMERCIAL AND OPEN SOURCE- FREE SOFTWARE PACKAGES (AS GEOMATICA, ARCGIS AND QGIS).

IN ORDER TO ACHIEVE THE GOALS A GOOD UNDERSTANDING OF THE CONCEPTS LEARNED IN THE ACADEMIC COURSE OF TOPOGRAFIA IS REQUIRED.

ANALYTICAL APPROACH. CALIBRATION CERTIFICATE. INTERIOR, EXTERNAL, RELATIVE AND ABSOLUTE ORIENTATION. ACQUISITION OF GROUND CONTROL POINTS (GCPS). Teaching Methods
THE COURSE PROGRAMME IS DELIVERED VIA LECTURES AND PRACTICAL WORKS.
THE PRACTICAL WORK IS PERFORMED IN COMPUTER LABORATORY AND CONCERNS THE USE OF COMMERCIAL AND OPEN SOURCE SOFTWARE (PHOTOGRAMMETRY, REMOTE SENSING AND GIS).
Verification of learning
THE EXAM AT THE END OF THE COURSE AIMS TO ASSESS THE ACHIEVEMENTS OF THE LEARNING OBJECTIVES. IT CONSISTS OF AN ORAL INTERVIEW PERTAINING TO LECTURE DISCUSSIONS AND GIS CONCEPTS AND AN INTERMEDIATE WRITTEN TEST THAT INCLUDES MULTIPLE CHOICE QUESTIONS. EVERYONE MUST COMPLETE A CLASS ASSIGNMENTS AND GIS PROJECT.
