KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING THIS COURSE IS EXPECTED TO PROVIDE THE BASIC KNOWLEDGE FOR THE COMPREHENSION OF BOTH MOTIVATIONS AND FORMS OF PUBLIC INTERVENTION IN THE ECONOMIC SYSTEM WITH PARTICULAR EMPHASIS ON THE TRADE-OFF BETWEEN EFFICIENCY AND EQUITY PERSPECTIVES. STUDENTS ARE ADDITIONALLY EXPECTED TO LEARN MAIN CRITERIA CHARACTERIZING THE DEFINITION OF BOTH PUBLIC EXPENDITURE PROGRAMMES AND TAX REVENUES IN ADVANCED ECONOMIES. APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO DESIGN AND ASSESS ECONOMIC POLICIES WITHIN THE PERSPECTIVE OF THE EFFICIENCY-EQUITY TRADE OFF, AND TO IDENTIFY MACRO-ECONOMIC EFFECTS OF FISCAL POLICIES IN THE SHORT AND LONG-RUN. MAKING JUDGMENTS STUDENTS ARE EXPECTED TO DEVELOP CRITICAL SKILLS FOR THE ASSESSMENT OF ECONOMIC POLICIES IN TERMS OF EFFICIENCY AND EQUITY (SOCIAL WELFARE ANALYSIS). COMMUNICATIONS SKILLS THE HETEROGENEITY OF LEARNING ASSESSMENT PROCEDURES IMPLEMENTED AT THE END OF THIS COURSE IS EXPECTED TO IMPROVE BOTH ORAL AND WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS ABILITIES OF STUDENTS. MOSTLY, STUDENTS ARE EXPECTED TO STRONGLY IMPROVE SYNTHESIS ABILITIES IN WRITTEN MANUSCRIPTS AND THE CAPACITY TO ANSWER MULTIPLE CHOICE TESTS. LEARNING SKILLS THIS COURSE INTENDS TO DEVELOP THE LOGICAL SKILLS AND MOTIVATION OF STUDENTS THROUGH THE PARALLELISM BETWEEN THEORETICAL INSIGHTS ARISING FROM STANDARD ECONOMIC MODELS AND ECONOMIC POLICIES IMPLEMENTED IN REAL LIFE BY GOVERNMENTS WITH RESPECT TO THE ORGANIZATION OF THE PUBLIC EXPENDITURE AND TAX REVENUES. |

THE EXAMINATION IS EXPECTED TO ASSESS THE KNWOLEDGE ACQUIRED BY THE STUDENT WITH RESPECT TO THE MAIN PRINCIPLES OF PUBLIC ECONOMICS. THE EXAMINATION IS WRITTEN AND ORAL. THE WRITTEN EXAMINATION CONSISTS OF SIX OPEN-ENDED QUESTIONS AND SIX MULTIPLE QUESTIONS TO BE COMPLETED IN ONE HOUR. A SINGLE OPEN-ENDED QUESTION IS ASSOCIATED TO EACH MULTIPLE QUESTION. THE ORAL EXAMINATION IS MOSTLY AIMED AT ASSESSING WITH MORE ACCURACY THE KNWOLEDGE ACQUIRED BY THE STUDENT IN CASE OF UNCERTAINTY ON HIS/HER PERFORMANCE TO THE WRITTEN EXAMINATION. THE EXAM IS HELD AT THE END OF THE TERM. THE FINAL MARK, OUT OF THIRTY EVENTUALLY CUM LAUDE, IS DETERMINED BY (I) THE COMPREHENSION OF THE REASONS, NATURE AND MODALITIES OF PUBLIC INTERVENTION IN THE ECONOMY, (II) KNOWLEDGE OF RELEVANT TECHNICAL DEFINITIONS IN THE FIELD OF PUBLIC ECONOMICS, AND (III) COMMUNICATIONS SKILLS. TEXTBOOKS, PCS AND SMARTPHONMES/TABLETS ARE FORBIDDEN DURING THE EXAMINATION; THE SOLE CALCULATOR IS PERMITTED. |
