Objectives
THE COURSE IS AN INTRODUCTION TO THE MODERN TOPICS AND TECHNIQUES CONCERNING NANOSCIENCES AND NANOTECHNOLOGIES.

KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING:
STUDENTS WILL LEARN ABOUT THE MOST RELEVANT METHODS OF DEPOSITION OF THIN FILMS OF PEROVSKITIC OXIDES, IN PARTICULAR HIGH-TC SUPERCONDUCTORS AND COLOSSAL MAGNETO-RESISTANCE MATERIALS, TOGETHER WITH THE ANALYSIS AND THE INTERPRETATION OF ELECTRICAL TRANSPORT AND X-RAY SPECTRA MEASUREMENTS.
STUDENTS WILL SUBSEQUENTLY KNOW ABOUT THE DIFFERENT CATEGORIES OF NANO-OBJECTS AND WILL BE INTRODUCED TO THE INTERDISCIPLINARITY OF THE NANOSCIENCE THROUGH A SERIES OF CONFERENCES (MAXIMUM 4) ON TOPICS RELATED TO FUNDAMENTALS OF BIOLOGY, CHEMISTRY AND ENGINEERING.

APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING:
STUDENTS ARE EXPECTED TO BE ABLE TO USE “BOTTOM-UP” E “TOP-DOWN” TECHNIQUES AS WELL AS THE MAIN TECHNIQUES OF SCANNING PROBE MICROSCOPY.
THEY ARE STIMULATED TO EXPLAIN CLEARLY AND RIGOROUSLY THE ACQUIRED KNOWLEDGE. THEY ARE ALSO EXPECTED TO BE ABLE TO WRITE DOCUMENTS IN ENGLISH LANGUAGE CONCERNING TOPICS AND TECHNIQUES ANALYZED IN THE COURSE.
Prerequisites
SOLID STATE PHYSICS, THEORETICAL PHYSICS, ALL LABORATORIES.

ELECTRON BEAM, SPUTTERING DC, AC AND MAGNETRON, MOLECULAR BEAM EPITAXY.

HISTORY OF NANOSCIENCE AND FOUNDINGS. SCALING LAWS IN MECHANICS, IN BIOLOGY, ELECTRICITY AND ELECTROMAGNETISM.

NANOMATERIALS: CARBON FULLERENES AND NANOTUBES.
THE "TOP DOWN" AND THE "BOTTOM UP" APPROCHES.
SCANNING PROBE MICROSCOPIES AND DERIVED TECHNIQUES.
Teaching Methods
LESSONS, CONFERENCES, SEMINARS AND LABORATORY. STUDENTS WILL MAKE A PRESENTATION OF SPECIFIC SELECTED TOPICS.
