Objectives
THE COURSE AIMS TO PROVIDE INFORMATION ON THE BASIC MECHANISMS INVOLVED IN THE EXPRESSION, DUPLICATION AND TRANSMISSION OF GENETIC INFORMATION; IN CELL DEVELOPMENT, DIFFERENTIATION, PROLIFERATION; BIOGENESIS OF ORGANELLES AND CELLULAR STRUCTURES, THEIR FUNCTION AND REGULATION; INTERACTION BETWEEN CELLS, BIOLOGICAL BASIS OF EVOLUTION; TO PROVIDE BASIC ELEMENTS OF THE PHYSIOLOGICAL FUNCTIONS OF LIVESTOCK AND COMPANION ANIMALS, IN ORDER TO PROVIDE THE BASIS FOR UNDERSTANDING ANIMAL PHARMACEUTICALS AND NUTRACEUTICALS
AT THE END OF THE COURSE THE STUDENT WILL KNOW:
1) ORGANIZATION AND FUNCTION OF THE EUKARYOTIC CELL
2) MOLECULAR BASIS OF THE MAIN CELLULAR FUNCTIONS AND REGULATORY SYSTEMS
3) FUNCTION OF THE DIFFERENT CELLULAR ORGANELLES AND THEIR RELATIONSHIPS
4) KNOW THE PHYSIOLOGY OF THE CARDIOVASCULAR, DIGESTIVE, URINARY,
NERVOUS, ENDOCRINE AND IMMUNE SYSTEMS OF FARM AND COMPANION
ANIMALS
THE STUDENT, APPLYING THE SKILLS ACQUIRED, MUST BE ABLE TO:
1) UNDERSTAND CLASSICAL AND ADVANCED CONCEPTS OF CELL BIOLOGY
2) IDENTIFY THE MOLECULAR AND CELLULAR BASIS OF PATHOLOGIES
3) ADDRESS AND SOLVE PROBLEMS RELATED TO CELL BIOLOGY
4) UNDERSTAND THE FUNCTIONING AND THE INTERACTIONS BETWEEN DIFFERENT
ORGANS AND ANIMAL TISSUES
Prerequisites
BASIC KNOWLEDGE OF GENERAL AND INORGANIC CHEMISTRY, PHYSICS AND MATHEMATICS PROVIDED BY HIGH SCHOOLS.

Teaching Methods
THE COURSE OF APPLIED BIOLOGY AND BASICS OF PHYSIOLOGY INCLUDES: LECTURES WITH THE SUPPORT OF MODERN TEACHING SUPPORTS SUCH AS PROJECTIONS BY MEANS OF MULTIMEDIA PRESENTATIONS WITH DEDICATED EDUCATIONAL FILMS;THE ATTENDANCE TO THE LECTURES OF THE COURSE IS MANDATORY. THE TEACHER WILL COMMUNICATE THE MODE OF ATTENDANCE CONTROL ON THE FIRST LECTURE OF THE COURSE. STUDENTS WHO FAIL TO SATISFY THE ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENT, WILL BE REQUIRED TO ATTEND A SERIAL OF INFORMAL TUTORIALS ACCORDING TO THE TEACHER'S INSTRUCTION.
Verification of learning
THE EXAMINATION CONSISTS OF A WRITTEN AND AN ORAL TEST, TO BE SUSTAINED IN THE SAME EXAM SESSION. THE RATING IS X/30. TO PASS THE WRITTEN TEST WITH A SCORE OF 18/30 IS MANDATORY TO ACCESS TO THE ORAL TEST, AND REACH THE FINAL GRADE.
THE WRITTEN TEST CONSISTS OF THE ADMINISTRATION OF A QUESTIONAIRE WITH BLOCKED MULTIPLE CHOICE QUESTIONS (30 QUESTIONS AND HAS A DURATION NOT EXCEEDING 40 MINUTES)
THE SUBJECT TOPICS OF THE WRITTEN TEST IS RELATED TO THE COURSE PROGRAM AND IN PARTICULAR THE TOPICS OF APPLIED BIOLOGY AND ARE AIMED AT VERIFYING THE ABILITY TO UNDERSTAND THE PROBLEMS PROPOSED.
IN THE ORAL TEST THE STUDENT WILL BE ASKED TO DISCUSS THE MAIN TOPICS OF THE COURSE, TRYING TO DEMONSTRATE CRITICAL THOUGHT AND AWARENESS OF THE STRUCTURE OF THE FIELD OF STUDY.

DURING THE COURSE, THE STUDENT WILL HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO CARRY OUT 3 PARTIAL TESTS, (NOT MANDATORY). THE TOPICS COVERED BY THE ONGOING TESTS WILL CONCERN APPLIED BIOLOGY. THE LESSONS DEDICATED TO APPLIED BIOLOGY WILL BE DIVIDED INTO THREE BLOCKS AND EACH IN ITINERE TEST WILL BE CARRIED OUT AT THE END OF EVERY SINGLE BLOCK. THE DATES OF PERFORMANCE OF THE ABOVE TESTS WILL BE AGREED WITH THE ATTENDING STUDENTS AND COMMUNICATED TO THE STUDENTS WELL IN ADVANCE OF THE DATE OF PERFORMANCE.THE PASSING OF THE PARTIAL TESTS MAY EXEMPT FROM THE PERFORMANCE OF THE WRITTEN TEST. THE EXEMPTION APPLIES EXCLUSIVELY TO THE EXAMINATION SESSION IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE TEACHING SESSION.

THE FINAL GRADE IS GIVEN BY THE AVERAGE OF THE VOTES OBTAINED FOR EACH UNIT
