UNIT "PRINCIPLE OF BIOLOGY" INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING TOPICS:
•THE CELL: ORGANIZATION, PROKARYOTIC AND EUKARYOTIC CELLS, DIFFERENCES BETWEEN PLANT AND ANIMAL CELLS, PLASMA MEMBRANE, CYTOPLASM AND NUCLEUS AND THEIR BIOLOGICAL FUNCTIONS, THE ENDOPLASMIC RETICULUM, GOLGI COMPLEX, MITOCHONDRIA AND CELLULAR ENERGY-(1,5 CFU- 10,5 HR)
•FROM DNA TO PROTEINS; (DNA REPLICATION, TRANSCRIPTION AND TRANSLATION) (1 CFU-7 HR)
•CELL REPRODUCTION: CELL CYCLE, MEIOSIS AND MITOSIS. (0,5 CFU-3,5 HR)

UNIT "BOTANY" INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING TOPICS:
•THE ORIGIN OF LIFE AND EVOLUTION, HETEROTROPHIC METABOLISM. PRINCIPLES OF BOTANY CLASSIFICATION. 4 H (1/2 CFU)
•PLANT CELLS: STRUCTURE AND FUNCTIONS OF CELL WALL, VACUOLES AND PLASTIDS AND PHOTOSYNTHESIS 7H (1 CFU)
•TISSUES OF THE PLANT BODY: PRIMARY AND SECONDARY MERISTEMS. PERMANENT TISSUES: DERMAL TISSUES, GROUND TISSUES, VASCULAR TISSUES. 7 H (1 CFU)
•PLANT ANATOMICAL ORGANIZATION: ROOT, SHOOT, LEAF, FLOWER. 7 H (1 CFU)
•PLANT REPRODUCTION. THE ANGIOSPERMS AND THEIR REPRODUCTION CYCLES. 7 H (1 CFU)
•THE FRUIT AND SEED DEVELOPMENT PROCESS. 3 H (1/2 CFU)
EXERCISES: MICROSCOPIC OBSERVATION OF PLANT CELLS AND TISSUES (1.0 CFU). 7 H
Teaching Methods
UNIT "ELEMENTS OF GENERAL BIOLOGY"
-CLASS LECTURES, WITH THE SUPPORT OF SLIDES, DEDICATED EDUCATIONAL ANIMATIONS; ACCESS TO ON-LINE EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES (3 CREDITS: 21 HOURS);
UNIT BOTANY INCLUDES:
-CLASS LECTURES (5 CREDITS, 35 HOURS), WITH THE SUPPORT OF SLIDES, DEDICATED EDUCATIONAL ANIMATIONS; ACCESS TO ON-LINE EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES.
-PRACTICAL ACTIVITIES IN THE LAB (7 H): MICROSCOPE OBSERVATIONS IN AUTONOMY OF PLANT CELLS AND CELL ORGANELLES, ANATOMICAL AND HISTOLOGICAL STRUCTURES OF HIGHER PLANTS
Verification of learning
THE ATTAINMENT OF THE TEACHING IS CERTIFIED BY PASSING AN EXAMINATION WITH AN ASSESSMENT IN THIRTIES.
THE EXAMINATION CONSISTS OF A WRITTEN TEST AND AN ORAL TEST FOR BOTH UNITS WHICH SHALL TAKE PLACE ON CALENDAR DAYS TO BE TAKEN ON THE SAME APPEAL. EACH TEST SHALL BE EVALUATED IN THIRTIETH AND SHALL BE DEEMED TO HAVE BEEN PASSED WITH A MINIMUM MARK OF 18/30. THE FINAL VOTE, EXPRESSED IN 30/30, IS THE AVERAGE, WEIGHTED BY THE NUMBER OF CREDITS, OF THE VOTES OBTAINED FOR EACH INDIVIDUAL UNIT. TO PASS THE EXAMINATION IT IS NECESSARY FOR EACH OF THE TWO MODULES TO OBTAIN A GRADE NOT LESS THAN 18/30.

UNIT "ELEMENTS OF GENERAL BIOLOGY" PROVIDES:
A WRITTEN TEST ON THE TOPICS OF THE COURSE, CONSISTING OF 30 MULTIPLE AND/OR DISCURSIVE QUESTIONS (45 MINUTES AVAILABLE; 18 POINTS MINIMUM FOR PASSING, MAX 30 POINTS); - THE WRITTEN TEST IS MANDATORY TO THE ORAL TEST THE ORAL EXAMINATION CONSISTS OF A DISCUSSION AIMED OF VERIFYING: THE LEVEL OF KNOWLEDGE OF THE THEORETICAL CONTENTS AND THE LEVEL OF COMPETENCE REACHED IN THE EXPOSITION
DURING THE COURSE, THE ATTENDING STUDENT ALSO HAS THE POSSIBILITY OF PERFORMING TWO PARTIAL TESTS (IN-ITINERE)
THE DATES FOR THESE TESTS ARE DETERMINED ANNUALLY, AGREED WITH THE STUDENTS, AND COMMUNICATED TO THE STUDENTS WELL IN ADVANCE. THE PASSING OF PARTIAL TESTS MAY BE EXEMPTED FROM THE WRITTEN TEST. THE EXEMPTION APPLIES EXCLUSIVELY TO THE EXAMINATION SESSION IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE TEACHING SESSION.

UNIT "BOTANY" PROVIDES:
A WRITTEN TEST (40 MINUTES), CONSISTING OF MULTIPLE CHOICE QUESTIONS (30). THE QUESTIONS WILL BE DEALT WITH IN THE COURSE PROGRAMME AND ARE AIMED AT VERIFYING THE ABILITY TO UNDERSTAND THE PROPOSED PROBLEMS AND THE ABILITY TO COMMUNICATE IN WRITING. THE WRITTEN TEST IS MANDATORY TO THE ORAL TEST. THE ORAL EXAMINATION SHALL CONSIST OF A DISCUSSION OF A DURATION NOT EXCEEDING 30 MINUTES IN ORDER TO ASCERTAIN: THE LEVEL OF KNOWLEDGE OF THE THEORETICAL CONTENTS AND THE LEVEL OF COMPETENCE ATTAINED IN THE EXPOSITION: THE PROPERTIES OF LANGUAGE, THE LOGICAL CAPACITY AND DEDUCTIVE AND THE LEVEL OF COMPETENCE REACHED IN THE EXPOSITION, ABILITY TO ARGUE, AUTONOMY OF JUDGMENT IN PROPOSING THE MOST APPROPRIATE APPROACH.
DURING THE COURSE, THE STUDENT ALSO HAS THE POSSIBILITY OF CARRYING OUT TWO PARTIAL TESTS (IN-ITINERE); A FIRST IN-ITINERE TEST ON: ORIGIN OF LIFE AND EVOLUTION, AUTOTROPHIC AND HETEROTROPHIC METABOLISM, PLANT CELL, PHOTOSYNTHESIS AND PLANT TISSUES, CONSISTING OF 18 BLOCKED MULTIPLE CHOICE QUESTIONS AND 3 OPEN ANSWER QUESTIONS (60 MINUTES; MINIMUM 18, MAXIMUM 30 POINTS).
A SECOND IN-ITINERE TEST ON: THE LEAF ANATOMY, STEM, ROOT, FLOWER, REPRODUCTION, FERTILISATION, FRUIT AND SEED CONSISTING OF 18 BLOCKED MULTIPLE CHOICE QUESTIONS AND 3 OPEN ANSWER QUESTIONS (60 MINUTES; MINIMUM 18 , MAXIMUM 30 POINTS). THE DATES FOR THESE TESTS ARE ESTABLISHED ANNUALLY AND AGREED WITH THE ATTENDING STUDENTS, AND COMMUNICATED TO THE STUDENTS IN ADVANCE.
