Objectives
"WHAT DO YOU FEEL WHEN YOU LOOK AT PICTURES? WHAT DO YOU THINK? WHAT DO YOU IMAGINE? HOW DO YOU DESCRIBE WHAT YOU SEE OR BELIEVE SEEING? "(D. ARASSE). PRESENTING SOME OF THE MOST FORTUNATE PATTERNS OF INTERPRETATION, THE COURSE AIMS TO PROVIDES STUDENTS WITH SPECIALIZED TOOLS IN ORDER TO INTRODUCE THEM TO THE TWENTIETH CENTURY 'DISCOURSE ON ART'. UNDERSTANDING AND APPRECIATING WORKS OF ART, AND COMMUNICATING THE 'EXPERIENCE OF ART TO AN INFORMED AUDIENCE WITH AN APPROPRIATE VOCABULARY AND FREE AND CONSCIOUS KNOWLEDGE, IS THE PURPOSE OF THE COURSE.

A GOOD KNWOLEDGE OF HISTORY OF ART, FROM THE RENAISSANCE TO MODERN ART, IS RECOMMENDED

COURSE PRESENTS SOME OF THE MOST INTERESTING PATTERNS OF INTERPRETATION OF WORKS OF ART OF THE TWENTIETH CENTURY. STUDENTS WILL READ TEXTS BY ERWIN PANOFSKY, BAXANDALL OF MICHAEL AND DANIEL ARASSE, AND DISCOVER THE VITALITY (AND THE CONTRADICTIONS) OF ART HISTORY AS A DISCIPLINE INTERPRETATION BY THE DESCRIPTION AND INTELLECTUAL ADVENTURE OF LOOKING
