GENERAL LEARNING OUTCOMES: THE COURSE AIMS TO PROMOTE THE ACQUISITION OF ESSENTIAL SKILLS IN THE FIELD OF PSYCHOLOGY; IN PARTICULAR:
KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: THE ACQUISITION OF KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING OF THE CHIEF PSYCHOLOGICAL TOPICS;
APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING:
THE ABILITY TO USE THE ACQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND TO INTERPRET INDIVIDUAL AND RELATIONAL PSYCHOLOGICAL DYNAMICS;
AUTONOMY OF JUDGMENT: THE ACQUISITION AND/OR DEVELOPMENT OF THE ABILITY TO INTERACT WITH ALL FORMS OF OTHERNESS;
COMMUNICATION SKILLS: THE ABILITY TO COMMUNICATE THE ACQUIRED KNOWLEDGE IN A WELL-ORGANIZED WAY;

INTRODUCTORY INFORMATION ON THE HISTORY OF PSYCHOLOGY WILL BE PROVIDED TOGETHER WITH BASIC INTRODUCTION TO THE MAIN EPISTEMOLOGICAL APPROACHES OF THE DISCIPLINE THEORETICAL CONSTRUCTS AND RESEARCH PARADIGMS (4 HOURS). A GREAT DEAL OF ATTENTION WILL BE PAID TO THE PROCESSES OF KNOWLEDGE FORMATION (REASONING, MEMORY, EMOTION AND LEARNING) (18 HOURS). MOREOVER, TOPICS REFERRING TO THE POSITIVE PSYCHOLOGY WILL BE ADDRESSED (8 HOURS OF THE LESSONS; 4 HOURS OF A SEMINAR ON POSITIVE EMOTIONS AND THEIR ROLE IN HUMAN DEVELOPMENT AND
PSYCHOLOGICAL WELL-BEING; HEALTH AND ITS IMPLICATIONS).
Teaching Methods
LECTURES WILL BE GIVEN WITH THE AID OF SLIDES AND VIDEOS. COMMENTS AND DISCUSSIONS WILL BE STRONGLY ENCOURAGED IN ORDER TO UNDERSTAND HOW PSYCHOLOGICAL PROCESS EXPLAIN REAL AND DAILY LIFE PHENOMENA. ATTENDING STUDENTS WILL INVITED TO ATTEND MEETINGS WITH PROFESSIONALS AND EXPERTS
Verification of learning
THE EXAM IS AIMED AT VERIFYING THE ACQUISITION BY STUDENTS OF THEORETICAL KNOWLEDGE RELATING TO THE TOPICS PRESENTED IN CLASS. THE FINAL EXAM IS IN WRITTEN FORM. IT COMPRISES 30 CLOSE-FORMAT QUESTIONS TO BE ANSWERED IN 35 MINUTES (1 POINT FOR EVERY CORRECT ANSWER, 0 FOR EVERY WRONG ANSWER).THE QUESTIONS, ALTHOUGH IN CLOSE FORMAT, DO NOT ASK TO SIMPLY MEMORIZE THE KEY CONCEPTS, BUT TO DEEPLY UNDERSTAND THE CONTENTS OF COGNITIVE PSYCHOLOGY AND THE ABILITY TO MAKE CONNECTIONS AMONG THEM.
STUDENTS WHO REGULARLY ATTEND CLASSES WILL BE ENTITLED TO ACCESS INTERMEDIATE EVALUATIONS (WRITTEN TEST) DURING THE COURSE. ATTENDING STUDENTS WILL MAY TAKE THE SUPPLEMENTARY ORAL EXAMINATION. ONLY STUDENTS WHO OBTAINED A GRADE OF 25 AT THE WRITTEN TEST OR HIGHER WILL HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO GIVE THE OPTIONAL ORAL EXAM. THE OPTIONAL ORAL EXAM IS AIMED TO INVESTIGATE IN DEPTH A SPECIFIC TOPIC AMONG THOSE ILLUSTRATED DURING THE COURSE AND WILL BE EVALUATED FROM 0 TO 3 GRADE POINTS, THAT WILL BE ADDED TO THE GRADE OF THE WRITTEN TEST .

STARTING FROM THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2019/2020, STUDENTS ENROLLED IN THE “EDUCATIONAL SCIENCES” AND “HEALTH & PHYSICAL EDUCATION” DEGREES WILL NO LONGER BE ABLE TO CHOSE THE EXAM IN GENERAL PSYCHOLOGY, SINCE A SIMILAR TEACHING HAS BEEN ACTIVATED WITHIN THEIR OWN DEGREE COURSES WITH OWN DIFFERENT CODES.
