GENERAL LEARNING OUTCOMES: AT THE END OF THE COURSE, THE STUDENT, WILL HAVE A GENERAL KNOWLEDGE ON THE INTERPLAY OF EMOTION AND COGNITION AND - WILL KNOW BASIC MECHANISMS OF EMOTION REGULATION. THE AIM OF THE PRESENT COURSE IS TO ACQUIRE KNOWLEDGE AND COMPETENCE NEEDED FOR ANALYZING AND UNDERSTANDING THE MAIN ISSUES OF THIS SCIENTIFIC FIELD, IN ORDER TO DEVELOP THE CAPACITY OF INDEPENDENT JUDGEMENT AND CRITICAL THINKING. IN MORE DETAILS, THE LEARNING OBJECTIVES ARE: KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: TO KNOW AND TO UNDERSTAND THE THEORETICAL PERSPECTIVES DEVELOPED IN PSYCHOLOGY, AND THE MAIN PHENOMENA ADDRESSED IN THE FIELD OF EMOTIONAL PSYCHOLOGY ; APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: TO DEVELOP THE ABILITY OF APPLYING THIS BODY OF KNOWLEDGE TO REAL SITUATIONS; MAKING JUDGMENTS: TO DEVELOP THE ABILITY OF UNDERSTANDING IN DEPTH THE PSYCHOLOGICAL ISSUES BY ANALYSIS AND INTERPRETATION OF SCIENTIFIC LITERATURE, IN ORDER TO GET AN INDEPENDENT JUDGEMENT BASED ON SCIENTIFIC KNOWLEDGE. COMMUNICATION SKILLS: AT THE END OF THE COURSE, STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO COMMUNICATE THEIR KNOWLEDGE AT DIFFERENT LEVELS (BOTH TO AN AUDIENCE OF EXPERTS AND TO ONE OF NON-SPECIALISTS), WITH SPECIFIC LANGUAGE PROPERTIES AND LEXICAL SKILLS, AND USING THE MOST APPROPRIATE KIND OF LANGUAGE FOR EACH CIRCUMSTANCE. LEARNING SKILLS: STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO UNDERSTAND AND INTERPRET COMPLEX TEXTS AND USE BIBLIOGRAPHIC TOOLS, TO IDENTIFY AND SELECT THE SCIENTIFIC LITERATURE USEFUL FOR INCREASING THEIR KNOWLEDGE |

THE COURSE AIMS TO ILLUSTRATE THE KEY CONCEPTS OF THE GENERAL PSYCHOLOGY TO DEFINE AND EXPLAIN THE THEORIES ON THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN EMOTION AND COGNITIVE PROCESSES (12 HOURS). THE IMPORTANCE OF SOCIAL CONTEXT IN DEFINING AND UNDERSTANDING EMOTIONAL DEVELOPMENT (12 HOURS). POSITIVE INTERPERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS: ALTRUISM, ATTACHMENT AND EMPATHY (6 HOURS). WELL-BEING AND LIFE STYLES IN THE ELDERLY (3 HOURS OF A SEMINAR). |

LECTURES WILL BE GIVEN WITH THE AID OF SLIDES, VIDEOS AND ANALYSIS OF SCIENTIFIC ARTICLES. COMMENTS AND DISCUSSIONS WILL BE STRONGLY ENCOURAGED IN ORDER TO UNDERSTAND HOW PSYCHOLOGICAL PROCESS EXPLAIN REAL AND DAILY LIFE PHENOMENA AND ATTENDING STUDENTS WILL INVITED TO ATTEND MEETINGS WITH PROFESSIONALS AND EXPERTS. |

ORAL EXAMINATION. STUDENTS' PERFORMANCE ON THE EXAM WILL BE EVALUATED IN TERMS OF THE CORRECTNESS OF HIS/HER ANSWERS WITH REGARD TO THE STUDY MATERIALS AND AS REGARDS THE EXTENT TO WHICH ANSWERS DISPLAY A GOOD UNDERSTANDING OF THE MATERIALS. THE HIGHEST FINAL MARK (30/30), EVENTUALLY CUM LAUDE, WILL REFLECT THE COMPREHENSIVENESS, ADEQUACY AND FULL ARTICULATION OF THE REPORT. THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA WILL BE APPLIED FOR THE EVALUATION: CONGRUENCY AND COMPLETENESS OF ORAL ANSWER (0-10 POINTS); CRITICAL ELABORATION OF THE PRESENTED CONTENTS (0-10 POINTS); COMPLETENESS OF THEORETICAL FRAMEWORKS (0-10 POINTS); ACCURACY OF THE TECHNICAL LANGUAGE REPRESENT FURTHER CRITERIA FOR GRADE BONUS (CUM LAUDE). MARKS WILL PROGRESSIVELY DECREASE BASED ON LACK OF INFORMATION (I.E., RELEVANT STUDIES NEITHER CITED NOR DESCRIBED) AND/OR IN CASE OF INACCURATE OR OFF-TOPIC ANSWERS. |
