Objectives
THIS TEACHING AIMS AT PROMOTING ADVANCED CRITICAL KNOWLEDGE OF MODERN AND CONTEMPORARY PHILOSOPHICAL TRADITIONS, WITH A PARTICULAR FOCUS ON THOSE WHICH ARE RELEVANT TO HUMAN SCIENCES, DEAL WITH KNOWLEDGE PROCESSES IN MODERN AND CONTEMPORARY SOCIETY, OR ARE INVOLVED IN CURRENT ETHICAL DEBATES.
kNOWLEDGE AND ABILITY OF UNDERSTANDING: STUDENTS WILL BE LEAD TO AN EXTENDED KNOWLEDGE ON HISTORY OF MODERN AND CONTEMPORARY PHILOSOPHY AND WILL BECOME ACQUAINTED TO THE KEY AUTHORS AND TOPICS OF THE HISTORY OF MODERN AND CONTEMPORARY PHILOSOPHY.
ABILITY OF APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: STUDENTS WILL LEARN TO USE THE KNOWLEDGE GAINED IN THE HISTORY OF MODERN AND CONTEMPORARY PHILOSOPHY FOR THE ANALYSIS IN DEPTH OF MORE SPECIFIC ISSUES WHICH ARE COMMON TO DIFFERENT SCIENTIFIC FIELDS AND TO PROPOSE CRITICAL APPROACHS TO THESE ISSUES.
Prerequisites
THE COURSE FURTHERS THE KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS ACQUIRED BY THE STUDENTS IN PREVIOUS UNIVERSITY COURSES IN THE SAME FIELD. IT IS EXPECTED THAT THE STUDENTS BE ALREADY ACQUAINTED WITH THE BASIC ELEMENTS OF PHILOSOPHICAL DISCIPLINES.

GENERAL LINES OF THE HISTORY OF PHILOSOPHY FROM GREEK ANTIQUITY TO THE MODERN AGE. THE FOLLOWING AUTHORS WILL BE INVESTIGATED: PLATO, ARISTOTLE, DESCARTES, SPINOZA, LOCKE, HUME, KANT, HEGEL, MARX, SCHOPENHAUER, NIETZSCHE (20 HOURS).

Verification of learning
THE FINAL PROOF WILL CONSIST INTO AN ORAL INTERVIEW. STUDENTS WILL BE EVALUATED ON THE BASIS OF THEIR ABILITY TO EXPOSE CORRECTLY THE CONTENTS OF THE PHILOSOPHICAL THEORIES THEY ENCOUNTERED IN THE PRESCRIBED TEXTS, THEIR ABILITY TO EXPRESS THEM THROUGH A PROPER LANGUAGE AND CONSISTENT ARGUMENTATIONS. THIS FINAL PROOF CAN BE MADE EASIER THROUGH INTERMEDIATE PROOFS WHICH THE TEACHER AND THE STUDENTS CAN ESTABLISH IN THE RUN OF THE YEAR.
