GENERAL OBJECTIVES THE COURSE AIMS AT ANALYZING ISSUES, PROBLEMS, CURRENTS, AND BASIC CONCEPTS OF THE HISTORY OF PHILOSOPHY IN THE PERIOD BETWEEN THE EMERGENCE OF THE FIRST SYMPTOMS OF THE THEOLOGICAL-SPECULATIVE CRISIS OF MEDIEVAL SCHOLASTICISM (XIV CENTURY) AND THE DEFINITIVE ESTABLISHMENT OF THE RATIONALISTIC AUTONOMY OF KNOWLEDGE (XVI CENTURY). KNOWLEDGE AND COMPREHENSION THE STUDENT WILL HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO: -LEARN THE THOUGHT OF THE MAIN PHILOSOPHICAL CURRENTS IN RENAISSANCE; -IDENTIFY THE MAIN THEORIES IN A TEXT AND THE ARGUMENTS USED BY THE AUTHOR TO SUPPORT THEM; -RECOGNIZE THE VARIATION IN THE MEANING OF SOME OF THE IMPORTANT TERMS OF ANCIENT AND MEDIEVAL PHILOSOPHICAL TRADITION WHEN USED BY RENAISSANCE THINKERS; -DETERMINE THE LINKS BETWEEN RENAISSANCE PHILOSOPHY, LITERATURE AND FINE ARTS. ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND COMPREHENSION THE STUDY OF THE DISCIPLINE WILL ALLOW THE STUDENT TO: – COMPARE THE CONTENT OF A TEXT WITH THEORIES EXPOUNDED IN SIMILAR WORKS; – COLLATE CONCEPTS AND THEORIES LEARNED IN DIFFERENT CONTEXTS WITHIN A TRANSDISCIPLINARY PERSPECTIVE; – RECOGNIZE INCONSISTENCIES AND CONTRADICTIONS IN THE REASONING OF THE AUTHORS; – IDENTIFY AND EVALUATE THOSE CONTENTS IN RENAISSANCE WORKS THAT STARTED PROCESSES WHICH RETAIN VALUE IN THE PRESENT-DAY WORLD; – FRAME TOPICS LEARNED IN A WIDER THEMATIC AND HISTORICAL HORIZON. SELF-ASSESSMENT – READ PHILOSOPHIC TEXTS AND COMMENT THEM INDEPENDENTLY; – IDENTIFY PRIORITIES AND OVERRIDING THEMES; – EXPLAIN THE CONTENTS CLEARLY; – DEVELOP CRITICALLY THE CONCEPT LEARNED. COMMUNICATIVE SKILLS THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO: – PRESENT THE RESULTS OF THEIR OWN ANALYSIS AND INTERPRETATION OF RENAISSANCE TOPICS AND THEORIES WITH ACCURACY, USING THE BASIC LEXICON OF THE DISCIPLINE; – DISCUSS THEIR ANALYSIS WITH COURSE COLLEAGUES AND WITH THE PROFESSOR; – USE RESEARCH METHODOLOGIES AND AN ASSORTMENT OF TECHNIQUES IN ORDER TO DIRECT AUTONOMOUSLY A PHILOSOPHICAL RESEARCH. LEARNING SKILLS THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO: – PINPOINT THE SOURCES OF THE WORKS OF RENAISSANCE PHILOSOPHERS; – PLACE THE WORKS OF A SINGLE AUTHOR AGAINST THE PROPER BACKGROUND IN WHICH THEY WERE CONCEIVED; – ESTABLISH POINTS OF AGREEMENT AND DISAGREEMENT BETWEEN SEVERAL CURRENTS OF THOUGHT; – SUMMARIZE THEMES AND ISSUES OF RENAISSANCE PHILOSOPHY. |
