THE COURSE PRESENTS FUNDAMENTAL TOPICS OF RURAL STRUCTURAL ENGINEERING. IN ADDITION THE COURSE IS AIMED TO THE ACQUISITION OF A PRACTICAL DESIGN ABILITY AND TO THE ANALYSIS OF STRUCTURAL SYSTEMS CHARACTERIZING THE RURAL BUILDINGS. AT THE END OF THE COURSE THE STUDENT IS EXPECTED TO HAVE A GOOD KNOWLEDGE OF BASIC DESIGN CRITERIA FOR THE VARIOUS CLASSES OF RURAL BUILDINGS, PAYING PARTICULAR ATTENTION TO THEIR RESPECTIVE FUNCTIONAL REQUIREMENTS. THE MAIN ACQUIRED KNOWLEDGES WILL BE: -SPATIAL DIMENSIONING -STRUCTURE STABILITY -MAIN ARCHITECTURAL TECHNICS CONCERNING RURAL BUILDINGS -MAIN PROCEDURAL ASPECTS CONCERNING RURAL BUILDINGS THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO APPLY THE FOLLOWING SKILLS: -ABILITY TO ANALYZE AND DESIGN A SIMPLE STRUCTURAL SYSTEM -ABILITY TO APPLY THE THEORETICAL KNOWLEDGE TO DESIGN SITUATIONS WHICH ARE DIFFERENT WITH RESPECT TO THE ONES EXPLICITLY DISCUSSED IN THE COURSE -ABILITY TO PLAN THE PHASES OF THE PROJECT, TAKING INTO ACCOUNT EVERY ENGAGED ELEMENT, IN ORDER TO PROVIDE A GENERAL PROJECT. |

Teaching Methods | |
---|---|
THE COURSE IS BASED ON THEORETICAL LECTURES (4.28 CFU FOR 30 HOURS), PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS (1.5 CFU FOR 10.5 HOURS) AND LABORATORY ACTIVITIES (0.22 CFU FOR 2.6 HOURS). THEORETICAL LECTURES OR EX CATHEDRA WILL BE HELD BY MEANS OF BLACKBOARD, PROJECTOR AND PRESENTATIONS *.PPT. WORKED EXAMPLES ARE PRESENTED TO APPLY THE THEORIES TO CASES OF PRACTICAL RELEVANCE. SOME PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS WILL BE HELD IN THE STRENGTH LABORATORY WHERE EXPERIMENTAL TESTS WILL BE EXECUTED IN ORDER TO CHARACTERIZE THE MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF THE MATERIALS PRESENTED IN THE COURSE. |
Verification of learning | |
---|---|
THE FINAL ASSESSMENT OF THE COURSE IS DONE VIA AN ORAL EXAM. THE EXAM LASTS ONE HOUR AND IS HELD AT THE END OF THE COURSE. TO PASS THE EXAM, THE STUDENT SHOULD DEMONSTRATE TO HAVE UNDERSTOOD AND TO BE ABLE OF APPLYING THE MAIN TOPICS WHICH ARE PART OF THE PROGRAM. IN THE EXAM THE STUDENT WILL SOLVE SIMPLE EXERCISES REGARDING THE MAIN TOPICS SHOWED IN THE COURSE. THE FINAL MARK, WHICH IS EXPRESSED IN 30TH, DEPENDS UPON THE LEVEL OF UNDERSTANDING ACHIEVED BY THE STUDENT AND THE CLARITY OF HIS ANSWERS DURING THE EXAM. FOR THE PURPOSES OF PRAISE, THE FOLLOWING ASPECTS WILL BE TAKEN INTO ACCOUNT: THE QUALITY OF THE EXPOSURE IN TERMS OF THE USE OF AN APPROPRIATE SCIENTIFIC LANGUAGE; THE ABILITY TO CORRELATE DIFFERENT TOPICS OF THE COURSE, WHERE POSSIBLE, WITH OTHER DISCIPLINES; THE CAPACITY OF JUDGMENT AUTONOMY ACHIEVED. |
