Objectives
THE AIM OF THE COURSE IS TO ANALYZE THE ROLE OF THE PUBLIC SECTOR IN A MIXED ECONOMY. THE FOCUS WILL BE ON EXPLORING THE REASONS BEHIND GOVERNMENT INTERVENTION, ITS IMPACT, AND THE USE OF TAXES TO FINANCE PUBLIC SECTOR ACTIVITIES.

KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
THE STUDENTS WILL LEARN DIFFERENT THEORIES AND THE EMPIRICAL EVIDENCE REGARDING THE FOUNDATIONS, THE TOOLS AND EFFECTS OF GOVERNMENT INTERVENTIONS (TAXATION AND EXPENDITURE SIDE) IN THE ECONOMY.

APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
THE STUDENTS WILL DEVELOP THE ABILITY TO APPLY THE ANALYTICAL METHODS PRESENTED TO REAL WORLD ECONOMIC POLICY PROBLEMS.

MAKING JUDGMENTS
THE STUDENTS WILL DEVELOP THE ABILITY TO ASSESS ECONOMIC SITUATIONS, TO RELATE THEM TO CONCRETE PROBLEMS, AND TO DEVELOP PUBLIC POLICY RECOMMENDATIONS.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS
THROUGH DISCUSSIONS IN CLASS, THE STUDENTS WILL DEVELOP THE ABILITY TO AUTONOMOUSLY DEBATE WITH SOUND TERMINOLOGY ECONOMIC POLICY PROBLEMS USING APPROPRIATE ANALYTICAL TOOLS AND EVIDENCE.

LEARNING SKILLS
AT THE END OF THE COURSE, THE STUDENTS ARE EXPECTED TO ACQUIRE THE ABILITY TO DEVELOP LEARNING SKILLS THAT ALLOW THEM TO CONTINUE TO STUDY AT AN ADVANCED LEVEL.

THIRD PART: ELEMENTS OF PUBLIC FINANCE AND FISCAL FEDERALISM
EUROPEAN GOVERNANCE OF FISCAL POLICY AND PUBLIC BUDGET SYSTEM. FISCAL FEDERALISM.

Verification of learning
THE ACHIEVEMENT OF THE OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE IS VERIFIED BY AN EXAM WITH EVALUATION EXPRESSED IN THIRTIETHS.
THE EXAM CONSISTS IN A WRITTEN TEST OF ABOUT 1 HOUR AND ABOUT 30 MINUTES.
IT AIMS AT VERIFYING IN A TRANSPARENT AND OBJECTIVE WAY THE LEVEL OF KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING ACQUIRED BY THE STUDENT ON THE THEORETICAL AND METHODOLOGICAL CONTENTS OF THE PROGRAM COURSE, AS WELL AS THEIR ABILITY TO APPLY THE ACQUIRED THEORETICAL KNOWLEDGE.
THE TEST IS STRUCTURED IN THREE PARTS.
THE FIRST PART CONSISTS OF 7 MULTIPLE-CHOICE QUESTIONS.
THE STUDENT IS AWARE OF THE SCORE CORRESPONDING TO EACH CORRECT ANSWER (THE MAXIMUM TOTAL SCORE IS 14 POINTS).
THE SECOND PART IS STRUCTURED IN 2 OPEN ANSWER QUESTIONS.
STUDENTS ARE AWARE OF THE MAXIMUM SCORE CORRESPONDING TO EACH QUESTION (THE MAXIMUM SCORE OF THE SECOND PART IS 18 POINTS).

QUESTIONS AND EXERCISES ARE SIMILAR TO THOSE EXPLAINED DURING LESSONS.
DURING THE WRITTEN TEST IT IS NOT ALLOWED TO CONSULT TEXTS, USE PCS AND MOBILE PHONES; ONLY THE USE OF THE CALCULATOR IS ALLOWED.
