BETWEEN ATHEISM AND THEOLOGY. THE COURSE WILL FOLLOW THE EVOLUTION OF THEOLOGICAL THOUGHT, STARTING FROM GREEK 'NATURAL' THEOLOGY, PASSING THROUGH THE CHRISTIAN 'REVEALED' AND COMING TO THE MODERN AND CONTEMPORARY 'PHILOSOPHICAL'. IN THIS WAY THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THEOLOGY, RELIGION AND POLITICS WILL BE ANALYZED. 1. THE NECESSITY OF THEOLOGY (6H). IN THE FIRST PART OF THE COURSE, IT WILL BE SHOWN HOW GREEK SPECULATION, PARTICULARLY PLATONIC, BEGAN FROM THE AWARENESS OF THE LIMITATIONS OF HUMAN KNOWLEDGE AND THE CONSEQUENT NEED FOR A TRANSCENDENT AND FOUNDATIONAL PERSPECTIVE. 2. RELIGION AS THE ETHICS OF THE PEOPLE (6H). IN THE SECOND PART, WE WILL DEVELOP THE IDEA, ORIGINATING WITH PLATO AND THEN CLEARLY DISCERNIBLE IN POLYBIUS, LUCRETIUS, AND CICERO, THAT WHILE THEOLOGY IS THE PREROGATIVE OF PHILOSOPHERS AND CONSTITUTES A SORT OF 'NATURAL MORALITY' FOR THEM (BECAUSE IT INDUCES THEM TO A LIFE DEDICATED TO THE SEARCH FOR THE TRANSCENDENT), RELIGION IS THE MORALITY OF THE PEOPLE, THAT IS, IT IS THAT AMOUNT OF TRANSCENDENCE THAT EVEN NON-PHILOSOPHERS CAN GRASP. 3. THE CHRISTIAN WORLD (6H) THE THIRD PART FOCUSES ON THE MEDIEVAL CENTURIES AND THE INTELLECTUAL AND POLITICAL FUSION BETWEEN THEOLOGICAL REFLECTION AND SALVIFIC-RELIGIOUS EFFORT. 4. THE MODERN AND CONTEMPORARY WORLD (12H) IN THE FINAL PART OF THE COURSE, WE WILL ANALYZE SOME FIGURES OF MODERN AND CONTEMPORARY THEOLOGICAL THOUGHT (LUTHER, ERASMUS, SPINOZA, HEGEL, FREUD, BULTMANN) TO DISCUSS THE EVOLUTION, OVER THE CENTURIES, OF THIS RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN PHILOSOPHY, THEOLOGY, AND RELIGION. |

THE EXAM CONSISTS OF AN ORAL TEST AIMED AT VERIFYING THE STUDENT'S PREPARATION AND ABILITY TO USE THE SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE OF THE SUBJECT IN THE FIELD OF THE HISTORY OF THEOLOGY. DURING THE INTERVIEW, THROUGH THE READING AND COMMENTARY OF TEXTS ANALYZED IN CLASS, THE ABILITY TO CLEARLY AND UNAMBIGUOUSLY COMMUNICATE THE ACQUIRED CONTENT AND METHODOLOGICAL KNOWLEDGE WILL BE EVALUATED. THE MAXIMUM LEVEL (30) IS AWARDED WHEN THE STUDENT DEMONSTRATES A COMPLETE AND IN-DEPTH KNOWLEDGE OF THE THEORETICAL CONTENTS OF THE COURSE, AND A FULL UNDERSTANDING OF THE TEXTS DISCUSSED DURING THE LESSONS. HONORS (CUM LAUDE) ARE AWARDED WHEN THE CANDIDATE SHOWS FULL MASTERY OF THE LINGUISTIC TOOLS AND VOCABULARY SPECIFIC TO THE DISCIPLINE, AND AN AUTONOMOUS ABILITY TO CONNECT DIFFERENT THEMES AND CONCEPTS DURING THE COURSE OF THE INTERVIEW. |
