THE TEACHING AIMS TO PROVIDE AN IN-DEPTH KNOWLEDGE OF THE MOST RELEVANT THEMES OF MEDIEVAL THOUGHT, ANALYZED IN LIGHT OF THE INFLUENCE THEY HAVE HAD, BOTH AS INSPIRING ELEMENTS AND AS POLEMICAL OBJECTIVES, FROM THE MODERN AGE TO THE CONTEMPORARY ERA. SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE OF THE HISTORY OF PHILOSOPHICAL, SCIENTIFIC, AND THEOLOGICAL THOUGHT IN THE MEDIEVAL AND HUMANISTIC WEST, AND VERIFICATION OF THE POSSESSION OF INTERPRETATIVE AND EVALUATIVE TOOLS ADEQUATE TO THE POSSIBILITY OF CONDUCTING IN-DEPTH AND ORIGINAL RESEARCH IN THE COMPARISON BETWEEN THE MEDIEVAL AND HUMANISTIC FIELD AND SUBSEQUENT EVOLUTIONS OF PHILOSOPHICAL THOUGHT. THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO: DEVELOP THE ABILITY TO UNDERSTAND IN AN ANALYTICAL AND PROBLEMATIC WAY THE SPECIFICITY OF THE MEDIEVAL PHILOSOPHICAL PARADIGM DEVELOP THE ABILITY TO FOLLOW AND ANALYZE, UNDERSTANDING THEIR EVOLUTIONS, THE HISTORY OF THE PRESENCE OF CERTAIN THEMES OVER A BROAD CHRONOLOGICAL SPAN THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO: NAVIGATE THE INTERPRETATIVE READING OF PHILOSOPHICAL TEXTS, WITH THE ABILITY TO REFERENCE THE TEXT ALSO IN THE ORIGINAL LANGUAGE (LATIN OR GREEK) AND IN THE IDENTIFICATION AND EVALUATION OF METHODOLOGIES DEVELOPED AND IMPLEMENTED BY SIGNIFICANT INTERPRETERS OVER THE LAST CENTURIES; INITIATE ORIGINAL RESEARCH AND DEEPENING ON THE SPECULATIVE FABRIC OF THE AUTHORS ENCOUNTERED DURING THE COURSE AND THEIR TEXTS RECOGNIZE, THANKS TO THE ANALYSIS OF THE VARIATIONS UNDERGONE BY EACH INDIVIDUAL THEME, THE SPECIFICITIES OF EACH ERA AND THE REFERENCE CONTEXTS THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO: FORMALIZE CRITICAL INTERVENTIONS, FORMULATE QUESTIONS, AND ILLUSTRATE THE OUTCOMES OF THEIR READINGS AND INVESTIGATIONS, WITH ADEQUATE HISTORIOGRAPHICAL SENSITIVITY, EVEN IN SPECIALIZED CONTEXTS THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO: ISOLATE THEMES, PROBLEMS, AND TEXTS THAT DESERVE INTEREST AND POSSIBLE CRITICAL INSIGHTS CONDUCTED DURING THE COURSE REGARDING MEDIEVAL AND HUMANISTIC SPECULATION AND THE MODERN AND CONTEMPORARY EVOLUTION OF THEMES THAT AROSE IN IT; ADEQUATELY EMPLOY IN SPECIALIZED STUDY AND WORK ENVIRONMENTS THE TOOLS AND SKILLS ACQUIRED IN THE PREPARATION OF THE EXAM, LEARNING TO PLACE ONE'S KNOWLEDGE ACQUISITIONS IN AN ADEQUATE HISTORICAL-PHILOSOPHICAL PERSPECTIVE |

THE COURSE AIMS TO STUDY THE CONCEPT OF 'HISTORY OF PHILOSOPHY' IN ITS HISTORICAL AND THEMATIC EVOLUTION. THE PURPOSE OF THE COURSE IS, ON ONE HAND, TO TRACE THE BIRTH AND EVOLUTION OF THE CONCEPT OF 'HISTORY OF PHILOSOPHY', FROM ITS ANCIENT BEGINNINGS TO THE MOST RECENT CONTEMPORARY REFLECTIONS; ON THE OTHER HAND, TO QUESTION THE MEANING OF 'DOING HISTORY OF PHILOSOPHY' AS AN OPERATION THAT INEVITABLY INVOLVES A PARTIAL RECOVERY OF A CORPUS OF TEXTS AND KNOWLEDGE WITH AN ELUSIVE DEFINITION. THE COURSE, STARTING FROM PLATONIC REFLECTION AND EARLY ARISTOTELIAN EXPERIMENTS, WILL FOCUS ON THE BIRTH AND DEVELOPMENT OF THE MEDIEVAL CONCEPT OF 'AUCTORITAS', AND THEN REFLECT, THROUGH MODERN AND CONTEMPORARY EXAMPLES, ON THE CURRENT CONDITIONS AND PERSPECTIVES AVAILABLE TO HISTORIANS OF THOUGHT. |
