THE AIM OF THE COURSE IS TO FOSTER THE UNDERSTANDING AND APPLICATION OF CONCEPTUAL AND COGNITIVE TOOLS OF THE DISCIPLINE IN RELATION TO THE SOCIOLOGICAL READING OF EUROPE AND CONTEMPORARY SOCIAL PHENOMENA. AIM OF THE COURSE IS TO HELP STUDENTS DEVELOP THE SKILLS REQUIRED FOR ANALYSIS, VERIFICATION AND APPLICATION OF THE MAIN CONTEMPORARY THEORIES ON EUROPE. THE COURSE ALSO AIMS TO FOSTER IN STUDENTS THE ABILITY TO CRITICALLY APPLY THE THEORETICAL TOOLS AND CONCEPTS THEY HAVE LEARNED, WITH REFERENCE TO METHODOLOGICAL AND ANALYTICAL TECHNIQUES AND PROVIDE THE NECESSARY ABILITY TO JUDGE IN THE WORKPLACE SO THAT THEY MIGHT KNOW HOW TO APPLY WHAT THEY HAVE LEARNED IN A COMPLETELY INDEPENDENT WAY. |

THE COURSE OF CONTEMPORARY SOCIAL THEORIES AIMS TO BRING TO THE ATTENTION OF THE STUDENTS THE ROLE OF SOCIAL THEORY IN UNDERSTANDING CONTEMPORARY SOCIETY AND THE UNDERLYING PROCESSES OF TRANSFORMATION. IN PARTICULAR, THE THEME OF THIS COURSE IS THE 'SOCIAL BOND'. ITS STUDY HAS TWO OBJECTIVES: A) TO OBSERVE THE SOCIAL BOND THROUGH THE CONCEPT OF RITUAL; B) TO OBSERVE THE SAME THROUGH THE LEN OF COSMOPOLITAN SOCIOLOGY. OVERALL, THE AIM OF THE COURSE IS TO REFINE AND STRENGTHEN THE CAPACITIES OF ANALYSIS AND SOCIAL CRITIQUE OF THE STUDENTS IN RELATION TO CONTEMPORARY SOCIAL THEORY AND THAT OF SOCIAL BOND IN PARTICULAR. |

THE COURSE WILL USE TRADITIONAL TEACHING METHODS, ORAL EXPOSITION OF THE TOPICS, AS WELL AS INNOVATIVE TECHNIQUES , WITH THE HELP OF ELECTRONIC TOOLS. IT WILL, HOWEVER, ALSO PROMOTE COMMUNICATION IN THE CLASSROOM BY STRONGLY SUPPORTING DISCUSSION AND THE INTERVENTION OF THE STUDENTS, SO AS TO FACILITATE THEIR ACTIVE AND ENGAGING SKILLS. FINALLY, THE COURSE AIMS TO FACILITATE STUDENTS' LEARNING ABILITY BY ACTIVATING THE POSSIBLE CHANNELS OF COMMUNICATION TO ENHANCE THEIR INVOLVEMENT AND LAND INCREASE THEIR LEVEL OF ATTENTION. |
