Contents
THE EDUCATIONAL AIMS OF 'GENERAL SOCIOLOGY' COURSE IS TO INTRODUCE THE STUDENT TO THE SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE OF SOME PARADIGMS OF CLASSIC AND CONTEMPORARY SOCIOLOGICAL THEORIES. IN PARTICULAR, THE SOCIOLOGICAL THEORIES, THE CONCEPTS AND THE AUTHORS OF THE CLASSIC AND CONTEMPORARY SOCIOLOGICAL PRODUCTION WILL BE EXPLAINED. THE BASIC IDEA OF THE COURSE IS TO LINK THE DEVELOPMENT OF SOCIOLOGY WITH THE CONCEPTS OF SOCIETY, THE INDIVIDUAL AND MODERNITY. IT IS STRUCTURED IN THREE PARTS, ALTHOUGH THE THIRD IS ONLY OPTIONAL, CONFIGURING ITSELF AS AN IN-DEPTH STUDY OF SOCIOLOGY IN THE AGE OF GLOBALIZATION:

FIRST PART: HERE ARE THE AUTHORS WHO HAVE DONE, AND DO, SOCIOLOGY. THESE ARE CONSIDERED AUTHORS OF THE CLASSICS OF SOCIOLOGICAL THOUGHT AND HAVE ALSO MARKED THE INSTITUTIONALIZATION OF SOCIOLOGY AS AN ACADEMIC DISCIPLINE: COMTE, TOCQUEVILLE, MARX, DURKHEIM, WEBER AND SIMMEL.

SECOND PART: HERE ARE ILLUSTRATED THE THEORETICAL PARADIGMS OR CURRENTS OF THOUGHT THAT HAVE MARKED ABOVE ALL THE MATURE PHASE OF SOCIOLOGY, FROM THE POST-WAR PERIOD TO THE EIGHTIES: SYMBOLIC INTERACTIONISM, FUNCTIONALISM, SOCIOLOGY OF KNOWLEDGE, CRITICAL THEORY, PHENOMENOLOGY, STRUCTURALISM.

THIRD PART (OPTIONAL): HERE ARE PRESENTED THE PROBLEMS THAT SOCIOLOGY MUST FACE IN AN ERA OF GLOBALIZATION. THIS PART IS PRESENTED IN THE FORM OF INDIVIDUAL BOOKS, CONSIDERED FUNDAMENTAL TEXTS, WHICH EVERY SOCIOLOGIST SHOULD KNOW TODAY: GIDDENS; BAUMAN; EISENSTADT; CHAKRABARTY; BOURDIEU; BECK, SENNETT, HONNETH, ELLIOTT AND LEMERT.
Teaching Methods
THE COURSE WILL USE TRADITIONAL TEACHING METHODS, ORAL EXPOSITION OF THE TOPICS, AS WELL AS INNOVATIVE TECHNIQUES, WITH THE HELP OF ELECTRONIC TOOLS. IT WILL, HOWEVER, ALSO PROMOTE COMMUNICATION IN THE CLASSROOM BY STRONGLY SUPPORTING DISCUSSION AND THE INTERVENTION OF THE STUDENTS, SO AS TO FACILITATE THEIR ACTIVE AND ENGAGING SKILLS. FINALLY, THE COURSE AIMS TO FACILITATE STUDENTS' LEARNING ABILITY BY ACTIVATING THE POSSIBLE CHANNELS OF COMMUNICATION TO ENHANCE THEIR INVOLVEMENT AND LAND INCREASE THEIR LEVEL OF ATTENTION.
Verification of learning
THE EVALUATION OF LEARNING WILL TAKE PLACE THROUGH THE ORAL INTERVIEW ON THE CONTENTS OF THE COURSE. THE VOTE, EXPRESSED IN THIRTIETHS MORE EVENTUAL 'DISTINCTION', IS DETERMINED BY THE LEVEL OF PERFORMANCE FOR EACH OF THE FOLLOWING DIMENSIONS OF THE ORAL EXPOSITION: COMMUNICATION SKILLS, CRITICAL-DESCRIPTIVE SKILLS OF THE QUESTIONS SUBJECT TO VERIFICATION, APPROPRIATENESS OF DEFINITIONS AND THEORETICAL REFERENCES, MASTERY OF CONTENTS. THE 'DISTINCTION' IS GIVEN WHEN THE CANDIDATE DEMONSTRATES SIGNIFICANT MASTERY OF THE METHODOLOGIES AND TOOLS AND SHOWS REMARKABLE OWNERSHIP OF LANGUAGE AND AUTONOMOUS PROCESSING SKILLS.
