Objectives
EDUCATIONAL AIMS
THE TEACHING PROPOSES TO THE STUDENTS' ATTENTION THE ROLE PLAYED BY SOCIAL THEORY FOR THE UNDERSTANDING AND INTERPRETATION OF CONTEMPORARY SOCIETY AND OF THE UNDERLYING TRANSFORMATION PROCESSES AS A CONSEQUENCE OF THE EFFECT OF GLOBALIZATION. WE WILL TAKE INTO CONSIDERATION THE SET OF SOCIOLOGICAL THEORIES CAPABLE OF PROVIDING AN INTERPRETATIVE FRAMEWORK FOR THE GROWING GLOCALIZATION OF SOCIETIES AND THE CONCOMITANT COMPLEXIZATION AND EVER-INCREASING CONNECTION OF THE MANY CO-EXISTING SOCIETIES IN THE GLOBAL WORLD.

KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
THE COURSE AIMS TO DEVELOP IN THE STUDENT ADVANCED KNOWLEDGE IN THE FIELD OF SOCIAL THEORIES APPLIED TO THE KNOWLEDGE OF CONTEMPORARY SOCIETIES AND THE PROCESSES OF GLOCALIZATION.

ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
THE AIM OF THE COURSE IS TO DEVELOP IN THE STUDENT THE ESSENTIAL SKILLS FOR THE ANALYSIS, VERIFICATION AND APPLICATION OF THE MAIN SOCIOLOGICAL THEORIES, AIMING AT THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE CHANGES IN CONTEMPORARY SOCIETIES AND THEIR SLOW SUCCESSION UNDER THE EFFECT OF GLOBALIZATION. IT ALSO PROVIDES THE ABILITY TO INTEGRATE AVAILABLE INFORMATION AND MANAGE ITS COMPLEXITY, AS WELL AS TO MAKE JUDGMENTS BASED ON LIMITED OR INCOMPLETE INFORMATION, INCLUDING REFLECTION ON SOCIAL AND ETHICAL RESPONSIBILITIES RELATED TO THE APPLICATION OF THEIR KNOWLEDGE AND JUDGMENTS.

AUTONOMY OF JUDGMENT
THE AIM OF THE COURSE IS TO DEVELOP IN THE STUDENT THE CAPACITY FOR PERSONAL REFLECTION AND THE RATIONAL APPLICATION OF THE THEORETICAL ELEMENTS THAT EMERGED DURING THE LESSONS, ALSO THROUGH THE ASSIGNMENT OF HOMEWORK AND DISCUSSION IN THE CLASSROOM.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS
THE COURSE INTENDS TO TRANSFER TO THE STUDENTS SUPERIOR SKILLS REGARDING THE COMMUNICABILITY OF THE SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE ACQUIRED, BOTH IN ITALIAN AND IN ENGLISH, BY READING TEXTS IN BOTH LANGUAGES

LEARNING ABILITY
FINALLY, THE COURSE AIMS TO BROADEN THE SKILLS ALREADY POSSESSED BY STUDENTS IN TERMS OF COMPREHENSION OF TEXTS AND KNOWLEDGE TRANSFERRED THROUGH BOTH AUTONOMOUS AND COMMENTARY TEXTS.

THE COURSE AIMS TO OFFER A SYSTEMATIC EXPOSURE OF THE PARADIGMATIC CONFLICT BETWEEN DIFFERENT THEORIES OF CONTEMPORARY SOCIETY THAT COMPETE FOR CULTURAL HEGEMONY OVER SOCIETIES, THE NEOLIBERAL AND/OR ORDOLIBERAL ECONOMIC SCHOOLS OF VIENNA, CHICAGO AND FREIBURG, WHICH EXPRESS THE SUPREMACY OF THE ECONOMIC OVER THE SOCIAL WITH DUE DIFFERENCES, AND THAT WHICH, USING THE SOCIOLOGICALLY POLITICAL REFLECTIONS OF DURKHEIM, REASSESSES THE NECESSARY BALANCE IN THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE ECONOMIC, THE SOCIAL AND THE POLITICAL. A SHORT TEACHING SPACE WILL BE DEDICATED TO THE THEORY OF SOCIETY EXPRESSED BY THE SOCIOLOGICAL THOUGHT OF ANTONIO GRAMSCI.
Teaching Methods
THE COURSE WILL USE TRADITIONAL TEACHING METHODS, ORAL EXPOSITION OF THE TOPICS, AS WELL AS INNOVATIVE TECHNIQUES, WITH THE HELP OF ELECTRONIC TOOLS. IT WILL, HOWEVER, ALSO PROMOTE COMMUNICATION IN THE CLASSROOM BY STRONGLY SUPPORTING DISCUSSION AND THE INTERVENTION OF THE STUDENTS, SO AS TO FACILITATE THEIR ACTIVE AND ENGAGING SKILLS. FINALLY, THE COURSE AIMS TO FACILITATE STUDENTS' LEARNING ABILITY BY ACTIVATING THE POSSIBLE CHANNELS OF COMMUNICATION TO ENHANCE THEIR INVOLVEMENT AND LAND INCREASE THEIR LEVEL OF ATTENTION.
Verification of learning
THE EVALUATION OF LEARNING WILL TAKE PLACE THROUGH THE ORAL INTERVIEW ON THE CONTENTS OF THE COURSE. THE VOTE, EXPRESSED IN THIRTIETHS MORE EVENTUAL 'DISTINCTION', IS DETERMINED BY THE LEVEL OF PERFORMANCE FOR EACH OF THE FOLLOWING DIMENSIONS OF THE ORAL EXPOSITION: COMMUNICATION SKILLS, CRITICAL-DESCRIPTIVE SKILLS OF THE QUESTIONS SUBJECT TO VERIFICATION, APPROPRIATENESS OF DEFINITIONS AND THEORETICAL REFERENCES, MASTERY OF CONTENTS. THE 'DISTINCTION' IS GIVEN WHEN THE CANDIDATE DEMONSTRATES SIGNIFICANT MASTERY OF THE METHODOLOGIES AND TOOLS AND SHOWS REMARKABLE OWNERSHIP OF LANGUAGE AND AUTONOMOUS PROCESSING SKILLS.

IT IS POSSIBLE TO PRESENT PAPERS BY THE STUDENTS, TO BE SUBMITTED FOR FINAL EVALUATION AND WHICH WILL CONTRIBUTE TO THE DETERMINATION OF THE FINAL VOTE.
