THE COURSE AIMS TO PROVIDE STUDENTS WITH KNOWLEDGE OF THE CHARACTERISTICS OF 'THIRD SECTOR' ORGANISATIONS (ETS) AND THE ROLE THEY PLAY, IN PARTICULAR, IN THE ORGANISATION AND CHANGE OF WELFARE SYSTEMS, WITH REFERENCE TO THE ITALIAN AND INTERNATIONAL CONTEXT. KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITY TO UNDERSTAND THE STUDENT IS EXPECTED TO BE ABLE TO UNDERSTAND THE DIFFERENT ORGANISATIONAL FORMS OF ETS - ALSO IN THE LIGHT OF THE MOST RECENT LEGISLATIVE REFORMS -, THEIR AIMS, THEIR PRESENCE/DIFFUSION AND THEIR DEVELOPMENT IN RELATION TO DIFFERENT PERIODS AND HISTORICAL-SOCIAL CONTEXTS. THROUGH KNOWLEDGE OF THE SOCIOLOGICAL PERSPECTIVES DEVELOPED IN RELATION TO THIS THEME, STUDENTS MUST BE ABLE TO IDENTIFY AND UNDERSTAND THE MULTIFORM AND EVOLVING LOGICS OF ACTION ADOPTED BY THE ACTORS OPERATING IN THE "THIRD SECTOR" AND HOW THEY DIFFER, FOR EXAMPLE IN RELATION TO THE PROVISION OF SERVICES OUTSIDE AND/OR INSIDE THE ETS, FROM THOSE IMPLEMENTED BY OTHER WELFARE PROVIDERS SUCH AS THE STATE AND THE MARKET. ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING IN ADDITION TO THE KNOWLEDGE OF WHY "THIRD SECTOR" ORGANISATIONS EXIST, THEIR EVOLUTION AND THEIR LOGICS OF ACTION, THE COURSE AIMS TO ENABLE STUDENTS TO APPLY THIS KNOWLEDGE THROUGH "CASE STUDIES", IN RELATION TO THE ITALIAN CONTEXT AND TO DIFFERENT TYPES OF ETS (VOLUNTARY ORGANISATIONS, SOCIAL PROMOTION ASSOCIATIONS, SOCIAL COOPERATIVES, FOUNDATIONS, SOCIAL ENTERPRISES). THE AIM IS TO ENABLE STUDENTS TO CRITICALLY ANALYSE HOW THE DIFFERENT LOGICS OF ACTION INSCRIBED IN THE "THIRD SECTOR" HAVE SUBSTANTIAL IMPLICATIONS BOTH ON HOW WELFARE POLICIES ARE ORGANISED AND ON THE MATURATION OF DIFFERENT AND OFTEN CONFLICTING IDEAS OF CITIZENSHIP AND SOCIAL BONDING. AUTONOMY OF JUDGEMENT THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO INDEPENDENTLY EVALUATE THE HEURISTIC CAPACITY OF THE THEORIES OF GLOBALISATION AND THE RELATED MODIFICATION OF ASSOCIATED LIFE, IN ORDER TO UNDERSTAND THE CRITERIA THAT REGULATE THEIR FUNCTIONING AND REPRODUCTION. COMMUNICATION SKILLS THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO HOLD CONVERSATIONS ON TOPICS RELATED TO THE SOCIOLOGICAL THEORIES OF GLOBALISATION USING APPROPRIATE SCIENTIFIC TERMINOLOGY AND THE TOOLS FOR ANALYSING THE MAIN PHENOMENA DESCRIBED. |

THE COURSE IS DIVIDED INTO THREE AUTONOMOUS BUT INTERRELATED MODULES. THE FIRST MODULE AIMS TO ANSWER THE QUESTION: WHY DO THIRD SECTOR ORGANISATIONS EXIST (EVEN IN COMPLEX SOCIETIES AT AN ADVANCED LEVEL OF DEVELOPMENT)? IT WILL ILLUSTRATE THE MAIN APPROACHES DEVELOPED WITHIN THREE TRADITIONS OF REFLEXIVE THOUGHT: A) ECONOMIC THEORIES; B) POLITICAL THEORIES; C) SOCIOLOGICAL THEORIES. THE SECOND MODULE IS BASED ON THE QUESTION: HOW DO THIRD SECTOR ORGANISATIONS (ETS) WORK? I.E. WHAT ARE THE OPERATIONAL AND MANAGEMENT CHARACTERISTICS THAT DETERMINE THEIR SPECIFICITY/DISTINCTIVENESS? THE FOLLOWING TOPICS WILL BE COVERED: A) MANAGEMENT OF ECONOMIC AND FINANCIAL RESOURCES; B) MANAGEMENT OF HUMAN RESOURCES; C) GOVERNANCE; D) RELATIONS WITH BENEFICIARIES/USERS OF SERVICES; E) RELATIONS WITH EXTERNAL STAKEHOLDERS. THE THIRD MODULE, FINALLY, USES THE "CASE STUDY" TECHNIQUE TO PROVIDE A SERIES OF ORGANISATIONAL ANALYSES OF THE MAIN TYPES OF ETS IN OUR COUNTRY (ALSO IN THE LIGHT OF THE RECENT LAW REFORMING THE THIRD SECTOR): A) VOLUNTARY ORGANISATIONS; B) ASSOCIATIONS FOR SOCIAL PROMOTION; C) SOCIAL COOPERATIVES; D) FOUNDATIONS; E) SOCIAL ENTERPRISES. |
Teaching Methods | |

FINALLY, THE COURSE AIMS TO FACILITATE STUDENTS' LEARNING ABILITY BY ACTIVATING THE POSSIBLE CHANNELS OF COMMUNICATION TO ENHANCE THEIR INVOLVEMENT AND LAND INCREASE THEIR LEVEL OF ATTENTION. |
Verification of learning | |
---|---|
THE EVALUATION OF LEARNING WILL TAKE PLACE THROUGH THE ORAL INTERVIEW ON THE CONTENTS OF THE COURSE. THE VOTE, EXPRESSED IN THIRTIETHS MORE EVENTUAL 'DISTINCTION', IS DETERMINED BY THE LEVEL OF PERFORMANCE FOR EACH OF THE FOLLOWING DIMENSIONS OF THE ORAL EXPOSITION: COMMUNICATION SKILLS, CRITICAL-DESCRIPTIVE SKILLS OF THE QUESTIONS SUBJECT TO VERIFICATION, APPROPRIATENESS OF DEFINITIONS AND THEORETICAL REFERENCES, MASTERY OF CONTENTS. THE 'DISTINCTION' IS GIVEN WHEN THE CANDIDATE DEMONSTRATES SIGNIFICANT MASTERY OF THE METHODOLOGIES AND TOOLS AND SHOWS REMARKABLE OWNERSHIP OF LANGUAGE AND AUTONOMOUS PROCESSING SKILLS. |
