KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING THE TEACHING AIMS TO PROVIDE CONCEPTUAL AND METHODOLOGICAL TOOLS FOR ANALYSING THE DIGITAL SOCIETY FROM A MACRO, MESO AND MICRO SOCIOLOGICAL AND ECONOMIC PERSPECTIVE; OFFER A CRITICAL ANALYSIS OF THE VARIOUS FORMS OF DIGITAL DATA IN USE IN SOCIAL AND MARKET RESEARCH ILLUSTRATE AND DISCUSS ANALYTICAL AND METHODOLOGICAL CATEGORIES TO SET UP A DIGITAL EMPIRICAL RESEARCH DESIGN, HIGHLIGHTING THE ELEMENTS OF CONTINUITY AND DISCONTINUITY WITH RESPECT TO TRADITIONAL SOCIAL RESEARCH; INTRODUCE LEARNERS TO THE USE OF DIGITAL DATA COLLECTION (E.G. WEBSURVEY, ONLINE INTERVIEWS) AND ANALYSIS TECHNIQUES (WITH A FOCUS ON CONTENT ANALYSIS AND NETNOGRAPHY). ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: (APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING) TO DEVELOP SKILLS IN THE PLANNING, DESIGN AND ARTICULATION OF INTERPRETATIVE HYPOTHESES, RESEARCH QUESTIONS, ARGUMENTS SUPPORTING THE METHODOLOGICAL CHOICES OF A DIGITAL RESEARCH PATHWAY; TO PROVIDE THE METHODOLOGICAL TOOLS FOR DIGITAL DATA ANALYSIS. MAKING JUDGEMENTS THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO SET UP A RESEARCH DESIGN IN A DIGITAL ENVIRONMENT, PRELIMINARILY DRAWING UP A CRITICAL BALANCE OF THE METHODOLOGICAL CHOICES TO BE MADE IN ORDER TO CARRY OUT THE EMPIRICAL INVESTIGATION CORRECTLY AND KNOWING HOW TO OPT FOR THE METHOD AND TECHNIQUES OF COLLECTING AND ANALYSING INFORMATION MOST SUITED TO THE RESEARCH PATH. COMMUNICATION SKILLS THE COURSE AIMS TO PROVIDE STUDENTS WITH THE SKILLS TO KNOW HOW TO INTERPRET AND COMMUNICATE THE INFORMATION GATHERED THROUGH QUANTITATIVE, QUALITATIVE OR MIXED DIGITAL RESEARCH; KNOW HOW TO WRITE A RIGOROUS AND METHODOLOGICALLY WELL-DOCUMENTED SCIENTIFIC REPORT/PAPER. LEARNING SKILLS THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO IDENTIFY THE MOST VALID METHODOLOGICAL SOLUTIONS IN RELATION TO SPECIFIC RESEARCH QUESTIONS, ACQUIRING THE NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE TO DESIGN ELABORATE DIGITAL RESEARCH DESIGNS AND USING DIGITAL TECHNIQUES FOR DATA COLLECTION AND INFORMATION ANALYSIS. |

EXAMINATION WILL BE WRITTEN AND ORAL ASSESSMENT. WRITTEN TEST, CONSISTING OF 7 OPEN MANDATORY QUESTIONS AND TWO OPTIONAL QUESTIONS, AIMS TO EVALUATE HOW STUDENTS HAVE UNDERSTOOD THE CORE CONCEPTS OF THE COURSE AND, ABOVE AL,L HOW WELL THEY ARE ABLE TO APPLY THE LEARNED METHODOLOGICAL AND TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE IN A CONCRETE WAY. ORAL TEST’S GOALS ARE TO TEST THE DEGREE OF LEARNING AND KNOWLEDGE OF THE SUBJECTS OF THE COURSE; IT ALSO AIMS AT HOW STUDENTS HAVE DEVELOPED AUTONOMY OF JUDGMENT AND CRITICAL ABILITY IN RELATION TO SPECIFIC SITUATIONS WHERE METHODOLOGICAL EXPERTISE IS REQUIRED. THE OVERALL GRADE IS CALCULATED EVALUATING THE RESULTS OF BOTH WRITTEN AND ORAL ASSESSMENTS. |
