Objectives
Acquisition of knowledge on the chemical properties and the reactivity of the main classes of organic compounds. Understanding and description of the structural and functional characteristics of the organic molecules with reference to their stereochemistry.
Ability to understand and describe the structure, the chemical properties and reactivity of the main metabolites of plant origin with nods to their function in biological systems.

INTRODUCTION TO THE NATURAL ORGANIC PRODUCTS: PRIMARY AND SECONDARY METABOLISM
STUDY OF THE MAIN CLASSES OF ORGANIC BIOMOLECULES:
CARBOHYDRATES: MONOSACCHARIDES, DISACCHARIDES AND POLYSACCHARIDES;
AMINO ACIDS AND PROTEINS;
LIPIDS: TRIGLYCERIDES, SOAPS, PHOSPHOLIPIDS, STEROIDS;
NUCLEIC ACIDS;
MAJOR CLASSES OF SECONDARY METABOLITES.
Teaching Methods
THE TEACHING METHOD IS BASED ON LECTURES AND RELIES ON SLIDES PROJECTED TO GUIDE THE TRAINING AND THE ADOPTION OF TEXTS DEDICATED TO THE DEEPENING OF THE THEMES. THE FREQUENCY OF TEACHING HAS TO BE CONSIDERED MANDATORY, THE PROCEDURES FOR VERIFICATION OF THE FREQUENCY WILL BE COMMUNICATED TO THE STUDENTS BY THE TEACHERS; ANY ABSENCES WHICH MAY AFFECT THE ACQUISITION OF THE STATED EDUCATIONAL GOALS SHOULD BE OVERCOME BY CUSTOM ACTIVITIES PREPARED BY TEACHING HOLDERS. FACILITIES SHALL BE ACCORDED TO WORKING STUDENTS ACCORDING TO THE ACADEMIC REGULATIONS.
Verification of learning
THE EXAMINATION CONSISTS OF A WRITTEN TEST AND AN ORAL EXAM.

THE WRITTEN TEST CONSISTS OF THE ADMINISTRATION OF A QUESTIONNAIRE COVERING THE TOPICS OF THE PROGRAM AND MUST BE COMPLETED WITHIN 120 MINUTES. THE ORAL EXAM WILL FOCUS ON THE ENTIRE PROGRAM OF STUDY.

THE WRITTEN AND ORAL TESTS ARE USED TO VERIFY THE LEVEL OF LEARNING OF KNOWLEDGE, THE CORRECT TERMINOLOGY, THE CAPACITY FOR ANALYSIS, WHICH SHOULD BE THE KNOWLEDGE ACQUIRED. THE ASSESSMENT TAKES INTO ACCOUNT A TOTAL OF: LEVEL OF KNOWLEDGE ACQUIRED; CAPACITY OF SYNTHESIS AND EXPOSURE, APPROPRIATENESS OF LANGUAGE; CAPACITY OF ANALYSIS. THE VERIFICATION PROCEDURES ARE DEEMED APPROPRIATE IN RELATION TO THE TEACHING OBJECTIVES, AND ALSO TO THE KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS EXPECTED. THE FINAL MARK CONSISTS OF THE AVERAGE OF THE INTERMEDIATE SCORES OBTAINED IN THE TEST / AND WRITTEN, OF THE ORAL ONE VOTE, ALSO TAKING INTO ACCOUNT THE PROGRESS IN LEARNING MAY BE REGISTERED BY THE STUDENT.
