TO LEARN AND UNDERSTAND: •BASIC ELEMENTS ON NUCLEIC ACIDS AND TRANSMISSIBILITY OF GENETIC TRAITS; •GENETIC AND MOLECULAR ANALYSIS OF PLANT GENOME AND REGULATION OF GENE EXPRESSION, IN RESPONSE TO ENDOGENOUS AND ENRINONMENTAL SIGNALS; •STANDARD AND INNOVATIVE METHODOLOGIES AND TECNOLOGIES FOR IMPROVING QUALI-QUANTITATIVE TRAITS IN CROPS. AT THE END OF THE COURSE, THE STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO APPLY HIS/HER ACQUIRED SKILLS TO: •ANALYZE THE GENETIC DETERMINANTS, AND THEIR TRANSMISSIBILITY, CONTROLLING THE MAIN YIELD COMPONENTS AND QUALITY OF PLANT PRODUCTS; •EVALUATE THE EFFECTS OF PLANT GENOME –ENVIRONMENT INTERACTION, TO OPTIMIZE THE AGRONOMIC PARAMETERS AND SUSTAINABILITY OF CROP PLANTS; •IDENTIFY AND IMPLEMENT THE MOST APPROPRIATE PROCEDURES TO THE RELEASE OF NEW CROP VARIETIES WITH THE FINAL AIM TO INCREASE PRODUCTIVITY AND QUALITY OF THE MAIN CROP PLANTS, INTEGRATING CLASSICAL TECHNIQUES IN PLANT BREEDING AND BIOTECHNOLOGICAL TECHNOLOGIES. |

DURING THE COURSE (9 CREDITS), FOR A TOTAL OF 63 HOURS, THE TOPICS INCLUDED IN THE PROGRAM, WILL BE PRESENTED AS: -LECTURES (6 CREDITS, 42 HOURS), USING SLIDES, ANIMATIONS AND RESOURCES AVAILABLE ON-LINE; -EXCERCISING CLASS (0, 5 CREDIT, 3,5 HOURS)- SOLUTIONS OF QUIZZES AND EXCERCISES ON MENDELIAN GENETICS. ADDITIONAL EXCERCISES AND QUIZZES WILL BE PROVIDED TO THE STUDENTS FOR PRACTISING AT HOME; -PRACTICAL AND FIELD ACTIVITIES (2,5 CFU, 17,5 HOURS). ATTENDANCE OF THE ABOVE DESCRIBED ACTIVITIES IS NOT MANDATORY, BUT STRONGLY SUGGESTED. |

ACQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS IN PLANT GENETICS AND BREEDING BY THE STUDENTS WILL BE EVALUATED THROUGH: -A FIRST WRITTEN TEST, COMPREHENSIVE OF TEN OPEN OR MULTIPLE CHOICE QUESTIONS ON TOPICS INCLUDED IN PART I (60 MINUTES AVAILABLE, MAXIMUM SCORE 10 POINTS, MINIMUM SCORE 6 POINTS TO BE PASSED): -A SECOND WRITTEN TEST, COMPREHENSIVE OF 5 PROBLEMS/QUIZZES ON MENDIALIAN GENETICS, RECOMBINATION AND LINKED GENES ((60 MINUTES AVAILABLE, MAXIMUM SCORE 5 POINTS, MINIMUM SCORE 3 POINTS TO PASS); -A THIRD WRITTEN TEST, COMPREHENSIVE OF TEN OPEN OR MULTIPLE CHOICE QUESTIONS ON TOPICS INCLUDED IN PART II (60 MINUTES AVAILABLE, MAXIMUM SCORE 10 POINTS, MINIMUM SCORE 6 POINTS TO PASS); -A WRITTEN REPORT ON THE PRACTICAL ACRIVITIES IN LABORATORY, OPEN FIELD OR GREENHOUSE, ACCORIDNG TO THE INDICATIONS GIVEN BY THE INSTRUCTOR (MAXIMUM SCORE 5 POINTS, MINIMUM SCORE 3 POINTS TO PASS). PASSING THIS TEST IS MANDATORY TO ACCESS TO THE ORAL INTERVIEW; -AN ORAL INTERVIEW ON THE TOPICS OF THE PROGRAM, EXCEPT MENDELIAN GENETICS. THE FINAL SCORE IS EXPRESSED IN 30/30. TO PASS IT IS NECESSARY TO HAVE A MINIMUM SCORE OF 18/30. AN ADDITIONAL “CUM LADE” MAY BE ATTRIBUTED TO STUDENTS WITH THE MAXIMUM SCORE (30/30) WHO HAVE DEMONSTRATED THEIR AUTONOMY IN DISCUSSING AND APPLYING THE ACQUIRE KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS IN PLANT GENETICS AND BREEDING PROGRAMS. |
