GENERAL OBJECTIVE
THE COURSE AIMS TO TRAIN EXPERTS TO UNDERSTAND THE ELEMENTS THAT CONDITION THE ECOLOGICAL QUALITY OF RIVERS AND TO IDENTIFY THE PRESSURES AND IMPACTS THAT DEGRADE RIVER QUALITY. SKILLS WILL THEN BE PROVIDED TO PLAN AND DESIGN ACTIONS TO IMPROVE THE ECOLOGICAL QUALITY OF RIVERS.
KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING SKILLS
KNOWLEDGE OF THE HYDROLOGICAL AND SEDIMENT TRANSPORT PROCESSES THAT REGULATE THE MORPHODYNAMIC BALANCE OF RIVERS. KNOWLEDGE OF THE ELEMENTS OF ECOLOGICAL QUALITY OF RIVERS. KNOWLEDGE OF THE ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY STANDARDS REQUIRED BY RELEVANT REGULATIONS. UNDERSTANDING OF THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN PRESSURES AND IMPACTS ON RIVER ENVIRONMENTS. UNDERSTANDING OF EVOLUTIONARY PROCESSES AND TECHNIQUES TO TRIGGER ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY RESTORATION PROCESSES.

ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
ABILITY TO IDENTIFY THE PROBLEMS PRESENT IN A PARTICULAR RIVER HABITAT, ESTIMATING POSSIBLE EVOLUTIONARY TRENDS IN ORDER TO BE ABLE TO DEFINE THE MOST APPROPRIATE MANAGEMENT STRATEGIES. ABILITY TO DESIGN ACTIONS TO RESTORE ECOLOGICAL QUALITY.

AUTONOMY OF JUDGMENT
ABILITY TO IDENTIFY THE MOST APPROPRIATE METHODS OF RIVER MANAGEMENT ACCORDING TO THE CONTEXT.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS
ABILITY TO WORK IN GROUPS. ABILITY TO PRESENT WITH APPROPRIATE TECHNICAL LANGUAGE THE TOPICS COVERED DURING THE COURSE, BOTH IN ITALIAN AND ENGLISH. ABILITY TO WRITE REPORTS AND GRAPHICS.

LEARNING SKILLS
KNOW HOW TO APPLY ACQUIRED KNOWLEDGE TO DIFFERENT CONTEXTS. KNOW HOW TO DRAW FROM THE RELEVANT LITERATURE FOR IN-DEPTH STUDIES AND UPDATES ON THE SUBJECT.
Prerequisites
IN ORDER TO UNDERSTAND THE TOPICS COVERED IN THE TEACHING, KNOWLEDGE OF THE PRINCIPLES OF HYDRAULICS IS NECESSARY. IN ADDITION, A BASIC LEVEL OF ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY IS NECESSARY FOR UNDERSTANDING THE TRAINING AND CONTINUING EDUCATION MATERIAL

Teaching Methods
THERE ARE 60 HOURS OF TEACHING (6 CFU) INCLUDING CLASSROOM LECTURES AND FIELD VISITS. SPECIFICALLY, THERE ARE 35 HOURS OF CLASSROOM LECTURES, 15 HOURS OF CLASSROOM EXERCISES AND 10 HOURS OF FIELD VISITS.
THE CLASSROOM LECTURES WILL ENABLE THE STUDENT TO ACQUIRE THE BASIC KNOWLEDGE TO UNDERSTAND RIVER DYNAMICS AND TO DESIGN MEASURES TO RESTORE GOOD ECOLOGICAL STATUS. THE EXERCISES WILL ENABLE THE STUDENT TO DEVELOP THE SKILLS TO APPLY ANALYSIS TECHNIQUES AND IDENTIFY RESTORATION MEASURES TO DIFFERENT CONTEXTS. THE WORK DONE DURING THE EXERCISES WILL BE ORGANIZED IN THE FORM OF A GROUP ASSIGNMENT AIMED AT ACQUIRING SKILLS IN PROJECT WRITING AND IN COMMUNICATING THE RESULTS OF TECHNICAL ANALYSIS. THE ELABORATION OF THE ESSAY WILL BE DISCUSSED WITH THE CLASS DURING THE EXERCISE HOURS AND INDIVIDUALLY WITH THE WORKING GROUP DURING TEACHER RECEPTION HOURS.
STUDENTS WILL CARRY OUT THE FOLLOWING PRACTICAL AND IN-DEPTH ACTIVITIES:
1.STUDY OF SCIENTIFIC LITERATURE IN ENGLISH ON A TOPIC CHOSEN BY THE STUDENT. THE CHOICE OF SCIENTIFIC ARTICLES WILL BE AGREED WITH THE LECTURER. THE STUDENT WILL MAKE A PRESENTATION TO THE CLASS ON THE SCIENTIFIC ARTICLES STUDIED.
2.DEVELOPMENT OF A CASE STUDY THROUGH: ANALYSIS OF THE MORPHOLOGICAL CONTEXT AND PAST EVOLUTIONS, ANALYSIS OF EXISTING PLANNING (FLOOD RISK MANAGEMENT PLAN, WATER MANAGEMENT PLAN; WATER PROTECTION PLAN), IDENTIFICATION OF PRESSURES, IMPACTS AND ECOLOGICAL STATUS, PROPOSAL OF A SYSTEM OF RIVER RESTORATION ACTIONS. THIS ACTIVITY WILL BE CARRIED OUT BY GROUPS OF 2 TO 3 STUDENTS. THE RESULTS WILL BE DISPLAYED IN GRAPHIC WORKS AND PRESENTED ORALLY.
PARTICIPATION IN ALL EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES IS STRONGLY RECOMMENDED
Verification of learning
ACHIEVEMENT OF THE TEACHING OBJECTIVES IS CERTIFIED THROUGH THE REPORT OF THE RESULTS OF TEACHING ACTIVITIES (1 AND 2). THE EVALUATION WILL BE EXPRESSED BY A GRADE IN THIRTIETHS, WITH POSSIBLE HONORS. THE FINAL GRADE WILL BE CALCULATED AS FOLLOWS: V=VA+V1+V2, WHERE:
-VA (0 TO 3 POINTS) IS AWARDED BASED ON THE STUDENT'S ACTIVE PARTICIPATION IN DISCUSSIONS AND WORK DURING THE COURSE,
-V1 (0 TO 9 POINTS) IS AWARDED BASED ON THE QUALITY OF THE REPORT OF ACTIVITY 1;
-V2 (0 TO 18 POINTS) IS AWARDED BASED ON THE QUALITY OF THE PRESENTATION OF ACTIVITY 2;
THE LEARNING ASSESSMENT IS CONSIDERED PASSED WITH V GREATER THAN OR EQUAL TO 18/30.
