Objectives
THE COURSE FIRST PROVIDES THE STUDENTS WITH THE BASIC TOOLS OF MACROECONOMICS AND INTRODUCES THE ANALYSIS OF MONETARY AND FISCAL POLICIES IN CLOSED AND OPEN ECONOMIES, WITH FIXED AND VARIABLE EXCHANGE RATES. THE REST OF THE COURSE IS DEVOTED TO THE ISSUES OF EXPECTATIONS FORMATION AND PUBLIC DEBT SUSTAINABILITY.
Prerequisites
STRAIGHT LINES IN THE X,Y SPACE AND BASIC ELEMENTS OF CALCULUS (SERIES, LIMITS, DERIVATIVES, INTEGRALS).
Contents
KEY CONCEPTS OF MACROECONOMICS: OUTPUT, MONEY, INFLATION, UNEMPLOYMENT. THE IS-LM MODEL IN CLOSED AND OPEN ECONOMIES.
FISCAL AND MONETARY POLICIES. THE KEYNESIAN MULTIPLIER. MODELS OF LABOUR MARKET AND THE PHILLIPS CURVE, EXPECTATIONS AND THE LUCAS CRITIQUE, CREDIBILITY, PUBLIC DEBT.
