Objectives
THE COURSE IS DESIGNED TO PROVIDE STUDENTS WITH A WORKING KNOWLEDGE OF THE PRINCIPLES AND APPLICATIONS OF CLASSICAL AND NUMERICAL CARTOGRAPHY, GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEMS (GIS) AND REMOTE SENSING FOR MAPPING AND MONITORING THE ENVIRONMENT.

KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING:
PRINCIPLES AND APPLICATIONS OF CLASSICAL AND NUMERICAL CARTOGRAPHY, GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEMS (GIS) AND REMOTE SENSING. CONCEPTS AND TECHNIQUES RELATED TO THE USE OF GEOGRAPHIC DATA AND REMOTE SENSING IMAGES FOR ENVIRONMENTAL MAPPING AND MONITORING.
CAPABILITY TO UNDERSTAND INFORMATION GIVEN BY CARTOGRAPHIC PRODUCTS AND THEMATIC MAPS.

TRANSFERABLE SKILLS:
EXPERIENCE IN READING DOMESTIC AND INTERNATIONAL MAPS, MANIPULATING AND ANALYZING GEOGRAPHICAL DATA THROUGH GIS SOFTWARE, USING ORTHOPHOTOS AND SATELLITE IMAGES, AND PRODUCING THEMATIC MAPS.

INDEPENDENT THINKING:
CRITICAL EVALUATION OF INFORMATION, IDEAS AND INTERPRETATIONS, BASED ON CAREFUL CHECKING OF AVAILABLE INFORMATION.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS:
EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION OF INFORMATION TO SPECIALISTS AND NONSPECIALISTS.

LEARNING SKILLS:
SELF-DIRECTED LEARNING, USE OF THE INTERNET AS AN INFORMATION SOURCE.
