Objectives | |
---|---|
To know and understand the mechanism of action and pharmacokinetics of drugs used in human pathologies. To be able to apply the acquired Knowledge about the mechanism of drug action for the management of human pathologies as well as the evaluation of interactions and adverse reactions. To provide the knowledge of the chemical bases that effect the activities of the drugs both as regards the pharmacokinetic and the pharmacodynamic properties. To provide the basis for understanding chemical properties of selected classes of drugs either of synthetic or natural origin. The student should apply the acquired knowledge about the mechanism of drug action for the evaluation of interactions between drugs and herbal products and related adverse reactions. |

Teaching Methods | |
---|---|
THE COURSE IS TAUGHT IN 80 HOURS AND IT IS DIVIDED IN TWO MODULES (MODULE A AND MODULE B) PROVIDING (10 CREDITS). MODULE A, 40 HOURS (5 CREDITS), IS ON GENERAL PHARMACOLOGY. MODULE B, 40 HOURS (5 CREDITS), IS ON MEDICINAL CHEMISTRY. THE FREQUENCY OF LECTURES IN THE CLASSROOM IS OBLIGATORY. IN ORDER TO SUBMIT THE FINAL EVALUATION, THE STUDENT SHOULD BE ATTENDED AT LEAST 70% OF THE HOURS REQUIRED. THE PRESENCE CHECKING MODE IS GENERALLY ELECTRONIC TYPE OR STATED BY THE PROFESSOR AT THE BEGINNING OF THE COURSE |
Verification of learning | |
---|---|
THE LEARNING OBJECTIVES ARE VERIFIED BY AN EXAMINATION, WHICH PROVIDES A WRITTEN TEST (MODULE B OF MEDICINAL CHEMISTRY) AND AN ORAL TEST (FOR BOTH MODULES) IN DIFFERENT SCHEDULED DAYS. THE WRITTEN TEST (120 MINUTES) IS FINALIZED TO CHECK THE CAPACITY TO CORRECTLY DRAW CHEMICAL STRUCTURES, STRUCTURAL MODIFICATIONS AND GRAPHICS. THE ORAL TEST (30 MINUTES) CONSISTS IN QUESTIONS AND DISCUSSION OF THE WRITTEN ELABORATION. IT IS FINALIZED TO ASSESS THE LEVEL OF KNOWLEDGE OF THE APPROPRIATE TERMINOLOGY OF BOTH MODULES AS WELL AS THE STUDENT CAPACITY OF EXPOSITION. THE MAXIMUM SCORE IS 30/30 AND IS INTENDED TO BE PASSED WITH THE MINIMUM VOTE OF 18/30. THE FINAL VOTE IS PROVIDED BY THE MEDIUM OF THE VOTES REPORTED IN ANY TEST. |
