Objectives
THE MODULE IS DESIGNED TO HELP DEVELOP A BASIC UNDERSTANDING OF THE DEVELOPMENT OF MEDIEVAL ART AND A FULL AWARENESS OF QUESTIONS OF PERIODIZATION AND CRUCIAL HISTORIOGRAPHICAL ISSUES; TO PROVIDE ADVICE ON READING ARTISTIC ARTIFACTS AND RECONSTRUCT THEIR ORIGINAL CULTURAL CONTEXT.

THE MODULE AIMS TO OUTLINE THE MAIN STRANDS OF THE DISCIPLINE OF HISTORY OF MEDIEVAL ART, FROM THE EARLY CHRISTIAN PERIOD TO THE END OF THE FOURTEENTH CENTURY. IT WILL ADDRESS GENERAL ISSUES ABOUT ART-HISTORICAL METHODS AND PERIODIZATION. THE MOST REPRESENTATIVE WORKS OF DIFFERENT PERIODS AND DIFFERENT CULTURES WILL BE TAKEN INTO ACCOUNT.
Teaching Methods
TAUGHT LECTURES IN THE CLASS-ROOM WITH POWER POINT PRESENTATIONS, AND A ON SITE VISITS. IN ORDER NOT TO CONFLICT WITH OTHER MODULES, THE ON-SITE VISITS WILL TAKE PLACE ON THURSDAY OR ON FRIDAY MORNINGS.
