CAPES – Cultural Heritage and Academia: Public Engagement for Social Impact in the EU

Department of Cultural Heritage Sciences

The BIP aims to explore and apply strategies for public engagement and the "third mission" of universities, fostering a broader appreciation of cultural heritage across diverse social groups. By involving people of different ages, backgrounds, and social statuses, the program seeks to enrich cultural identities and promote social cohesion through new forms of interaction, strengthening communities on cultural, social, and economic levels. Additionally, the project supports the principles of open science and social impact.

The teaching and learning program combines online sessions with in-person lectures held at monuments, museums, archaeological sites, and theatres. Faculty members from DISPAC—representing the fields of Cultural Heritage, Philosophy, and DAVIMUS—along with international lecturers and external experts, will guide students through theoretical discussions and case studies on the research and promotion of both tangible and intangible cultural heritage.

Where

The program will be held in person at the University of Salerno's Department of Cultural Heritage Sciences and is coordinated by Francesca Dell'Acqua in collaboration with six other European universities.

When

The program will take place in person from September 1 to 6, 2025, with a total duration of 35 hours.

The virtual component consists of 15 hours of lectures, divided into five sessions of three hours each, to be held in May and June 2025 via the Microsoft Teams platform.
