Objectives
THE OVERALL GOALS OF THIS COURSE ARE TO PROVIDE THE BASIC KNOWLEDGE REGARDING THE IONIC EQUILIBRIA IN AQUEOUS SOLUTIONS, THE PRINCIPALS OF QUALITATIVE AND QUANTITATIVE ANALYSIS, THE DIFFERENT STEPS OF A MODERN ANALYTICAL PROCEDURE AND ESPECIALLY TO THE INTERPRETATION AND STATISTICAL PROCESSING OF MEASUREMENTS.
AFTER THE COURSE THE STUDENT SHOULD BE ABLE TO CORRECTLY APPLY THE THEORETICAL PRINCIPALS WHEN USING CLASSICAL WET CHEMICAL PROCEDURES AS WELL AS MODERN INSTRUMENTAL METHODS. SPECIAL ATTENTION WILL BE PAID TO VOLUMETRIC AND GRAVIMETRIC ANALYSIS, SPECTROSCOPIC AND SEPARATION TECHNIQUES WITH FOCUS ON CHROMATOGRAPHY AND THE INTERPRETATION OF CHROMATOGRAMS.
Prerequisites
TO GAIN ACCESS TO THE EXAM, THE STUDENT MUST HAVE PASSED THE EXAMINATION OF GENERAL AND INORGANIC CHEMISTRY. APPROPRIATE PROFICIENCY IN BASIC MATHEMATICS, PHYSICS AND STOICHIOMETRY AS WELL AS SOME KNOWLEDGE OF ORGANIC CHEMISTRY ARE ALSO REQUIRED.

DEFINITION OF ELECTROMAGNETIC RADIATION. INTERACTION BETWEEN ELECTROMAGNETIC RADIATIONS AND MATTER: ABSORPTION AND EMISSION, ENERGY LEVELS AND TRANSITIONS. QUALITATIVE AND QUANTITATIVE ASPECTS: ABSORPTION AND EMISSION SPECTRA; LAMBERT-BEER'S LAW.
