Objectives
EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES AND SKILLS TO BE ACQUIRED.
KNOW THE MECHANISMS THAT GOVERN THE DIFFERENT PHASES OF LANDSLIDES, PREDISPOSING FACTORS AND TRIGGERING CAUSES. ACQUIRE THE METHODOLOGIES FOR LANDSLIDE ZONING AT TERRITORIAL SCALE, AS WELL AS THE ASSESSMENT OF LANDSLIDE RISK AND THE FACTORS THAT CONTRIBUTE TO ITS DEFINITION (HAZARD, ELEMENTS AT RISK AND VULNERABILITY). DEVELOPMENT OF THE MOST SUITABLE RISK MITIGATION MEASURES.

KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING.
LANDSLIDE TYPOLOGY, DEFORMATION AND FAILURE MECHANISMS IN NATURAL SLOPES, LANDSLIDE RISK THEORY, LANDSLIDE RISK ANALYSIS TERMINOLOGY.

APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING.
MODEL LANDSLIDE BEHAVIOR AND EVOLUTION, LANDSLIDE RISK ESTIMATION, DESIGN OF MITIGATION MEASURES

MAKING JUDGEMENTS.
IDENTIFY THE MOST APPROPRIATE METHODS TO ESTIMATE LANDSLIDE SUSCEPTIBILITY, HAZARD, CONSEQUENCES AND RISK AT DIFFERENT REFERENCE SCALES.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS.
GROUP WORK AND PRESENTATION OF LANDSLIDE-RELATED TOPICS

LEARNING SKILLS.
APPLY THE ACQUIRED KNOWLEDGE TO DIFFERENT SETTINGS, INDEPENDENT RESEARCH.

Teaching Methods
THE COURSE COMPRISES
- LESSONS (40 HOURS, 4 CFU)
- GROUP AND INDIVIDUAL TUTORIAL ACTIVITIES, INCLUDING DISCUSSIONS ON AUTO-EVALUATION TESTS AND FLIPPED CLASSROOM ACTIVITIES (20 HOURS, 2 CFU)

THE COURSE TOPICS ARE PRESENTED IN THE LESSONS. IN THE TUTORIAL ACTIVITIES A PROBLEM IS SOLVED USING THE TECHNIQUES PRESENTED IN THE THEORETICAL LESSONS. THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE PROBLEM IS GUIDED BY THE TEACHER AND TENDS TO DEVELOP AND STRENGTHEN THE STUDENT'S ABILITY TO IDENTIFY THE MOST SUITABLE TECHNIQUES FOR THE PROBLEM. THERE ARE ALSO MULTIPLE-CHOICE SELF-ASSESSMENT TESTS.
Verification of learning
AT THE END OF THE COURSE, THE EVALUATION WILL BE BASED ON AN ORAL EXAM (TYPICAL DURATION: 30 MINUTES) COMPRISING:
- PRELIMINARY DISCUSSION ON THE RESULTS OF A TUTORIAL ACTIVITY (TYPICAL DURATION: 10 MINUTES);
- INTERVIEW IN WHICH THE LEVEL OF THE STUDENT'S THEORETICAL KNOWLEDGE IS ASSESSED ON COURSE TOPICS (TYPICAL DURATION: 20 MINUTES).

THE ORAL EXAMINATION IS ALSO AIMED AT DEEPENING THE AUTONOMY OF ANALYSIS AND JUDGMENT AND THE STUDENT'S PRESENTATION SKILLS.

THE EVALUATION OF THE EXAM TAKES INTO ACCOUNT THE COMPLETENESS, CLARITY AND ACCURACY OF THE ANSWERS, AS WELL AS THE READINESS DEMONSTRATED BY THE STUDENT IN THE PRESENTATION OF THE TOPICS COVERED. THE FINAL GRADE, EXPRESSED IN THIRTIETHS WITH POSSIBLE PRAISE, IS NOT OBTAINED AS THE AVERAGE OF THE TWO TESTS. THE MINIMUM LEVEL OF ASSESSMENT (18) IS ASSIGNED WHEN THE STUDENT HAS A PIECEMEAL KNOWLEDGE OF THE TOPICS COVERED AND SHOWS A LIMITED ABILITY TO USE THEM IN THE CONTEXT OF THE STUDY. THE MAXIMUM LEVEL (30) IS ASSIGNED WHEN THE STUDENT DEMONSTRATES A COMPLETE AND IN-DEPTH KNOWLEDGE OF THE METHODOLOGIES AND TOOLS AND HAS A CONSIDERABLE ABILITY TO USE THEM IN THE CONTEXT OF STUDY. PRAISE IS GIVEN WHEN THE CANDIDATE DEMONSTRATES SIGNIFICANT MASTERY OF METHODOLOGIES AND TOOLS AND SHOWS CONSIDERABLE OWNERSHIP OF LANGUAGE AND AUTONOMOUS PROCESSING SKILLS EVEN IN CONTEXTS DIFFERENT FROM THOSE PROPOSED BY THE TEACHER.
