Objectives
GENERAL OBJECTIVE
MODULE 1 HAS THE OBJECTIVE OF MAKING KNOWN THE MECHANISMS THAT GOVERN THE DIFFERENT PHASES OF LANDSLIDES, BE THEY FIRST DETACHMENT OR REACTIVATION, THE PREDISPOSING FACTORS AND THE TRIGGERING CAUSES, AND TO ACQUIRE THE METHODOLOGIES FOR THE PERIMETER OF LANDSLIDES, REAL OR POTENTIAL, OVER A LARGE AREA, AS WELL AS THE ASSESSMENT OF THE RISK AND THE FACTORS THAT CONTRIBUTE TO ITS DEFINITION (DANGEROUSNESS, ELEMENTS AT RISK AND VULNERABILITY).
MODULE 2 AIMS TO TEACH HOW A SLOPE INTERACTS WITH STRUCTURES AND INFRASTRUCTURES, AS WELL AS HOW IT CAN AFFECT URBAN CENTERS AND RESIDENT POPULATIONS, AND TO ACQUIRE THE DECISION-MAKING AND METHODOLOGICAL TOOLS USEFUL FOR IDENTIFYING THE MOST SUITABLE WORKS OR ACTIONS FOR THE LANDSLIDE RISK REDUCTION.

KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
MODULE 1. THE STUDENT WILL KNOW THE TYPES OF LANDSLIDE PHENOMENA, THE MECHANISMS OF DEFORMATION AND FAILURE OF NATURAL SLOPES, THE THEORY OF LANDSLIDE RISK, AND WILL ACQUIRE THE TERMINOLOGY USED IN THE ANALYSIS OF LANDSLIDE SUSCEPTIBILITY, DANGER AND RISK.
MODULE 2. THE STUDENT WILL KNOW THE TYPES OF ACTIONS AND WORKS USEFUL FOR REDUCING LANDSLIDE RISK. ACQUIRE THE TERMINOLOGY USED IN ACTIONS AIMED AT REDUCING LANDSLIDE RISK.

ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
MODULE 1. THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO PREDICT THE EVOLUTION MODES OF LANDSLIDE PHENOMENA AND ESTIMATE THE LANDSLIDE RISK.
MODULE 2. THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO IDENTIFY AND CALCULATE THE SCENARIOS OF LANDSLIDE/STRUCTURE INTERACTION, AND BE ABLE TO ESTIMATE THE LANDSLIDE RISK REDUCTION ACHIEVED THROUGH THE IMPLEMENTATION OF APPROPRIATE INTERVENTIONS.

AUTONOMY OF JUDGEMENT
MODULE 1. THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO IDENTIFY THE MOST APPROPRIATE METHODS TO ESTIMATE THE DANGER OF LANDSLIDE PHENOMENA AT DIFFERENT REFERENCE SCALES AND THE RISK LINKED TO THEIR INTERACTION WITH STRUCTURES, INFRASTRUCTURES AND HUMAN BEINGS.
MODULE 2. THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO IDENTIFY THE MOST APPROPRIATE WORKS AND ACTIONS TO MINIMIZE THE RISK LINKED TO THE INTERACTION OF LANDSLIDES WITH STRUCTURES, INFRASTRUCTURES AND THE POPULATION.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS
MODULE 1. THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO WORK IN A GROUP AND ORALLY EXPLAIN A TOPIC RELATED TO LANDSLIDE RISK.
MODULE 2. THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO WORK IN A GROUP AND ORALLY PRESENT A TOPIC RELATED TO LANDSLIDE RISK REDUCTION.

LEARNING ABILITY
MODULE 1. THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO APPLY THE KNOWLEDGE ACQUIRED TO CONTEXTS DIFFERENT FROM THOSE PRESENTED DURING THE COURSE, AND EXPLORE THE TOPICS COVERED USING MATERIALS DIFFERENT FROM THOSE PROPOSED.
MODULE 2. THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO APPLY THE KNOWLEDGE ACQUIRED TO CONTEXTS DIFFERENT FROM THOSE PRESENTED DURING THE COURSE, AND EXPLORE THE TOPICS COVERED USING MATERIALS DIFFERENT FROM THOSE PROPOSED.
Prerequisites
PREREQUISITES

Contents
THE COURSE IS DIVIDED INTO 2 MODULES, CALLED:
- LANDSLIDE RISK,
- LANDSLIDE RISK MITIGATION WORKS

MODULE 1: LANDSLIDE RISK, 60 HOURS
- LANDSLIDE CLASSIFICATION AND ANALYSIS (THEORY: 6 HOURS; TUTORIAL ACTIVITY: 2 HOURS)
- GEOTECHNICAL SLOPE MODEL (THEORY: 6 HOURS; TUTORIAL ACTIVITY: 3 HOURS)
- LANDSLIDE RISK (THEORY: 10 HOURS; TUTORIAL ACTIVITY: 5 HOURS)
- LANDSLIDE ANALYSIS AT SITE SCALE (THEORY: 9 HOURS; TUTORIAL ACTIVITY: 5 HOURS)
- LANDSLIDE ANALYSIS AT REGIONAL SCALE (THEORY: 9 HOURS; TUTORIAL ACTIVITY: 5 HOURS)

MODULE 2: LANDSLIDE RISK MITIGATION WORKS, 60 HOURS
- TYPES OF INTERVENTIONS FOR RISK MITIGATION (THEORY: 8; TUTORIAL ACTIVITY: 4)
- IDENTIFICATION OF THE MOST SUITABLE TYPES OF INTERVENTION (THEORY: 8; TUTORIAL ACTIVITY: 4)
- LOCATION AND DESIGN OF THE RISK MITIGATION INTERVENTION (THEORY: 8; TUTORIAL ACTIVITY: 4)
- VERIFICATION OF THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THE INTERVENTION (THEORY: 8; TUTORIAL ACTIVITY: 4)
- RISK ASSESSMENT IN THE POST-OPERAM CONDITION (THEORY: 8; TUTORIAL ACTIVITY: 4)
Teaching Methods
EQUALLY DIVIDED BETWEEN THE TWO MODULES, THE COURSE HAS 120 LECTURE HOURS, WITH THE FOLLOWING SUBDIVISION:
- LESSONS (80 HOURS)
- GROUP AND INDIVIDUAL TUTORIAL ACTIVITIES, INCLUDING DISCUSSIONS ON AUTO-EVALUATION TESTS AND FLIPPED CLASSROOM ACTIVITIES (40 HOURS)

THE COURSE TOPICS ARE PRESENTED IN THE LESSONS. IN THE TUTORIAL ACTIVITIES A PROBLEM IS SOLVED USING THE TECHNIQUES PRESENTED IN THE THEORETICAL LESSONS. THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE PROBLEM IS GUIDED BY THE TEACHER AND TENDS TO DEVELOP AND STRENGTHEN THE STUDENT'S ABILITY TO IDENTIFY THE MOST SUITABLE TECHNIQUES FOR THE PROBLEM. THERE ARE ALSO MULTIPLE-CHOICE SELF-ASSESSMENT TESTS.
Verification of learning
AT THE END OF THE COURSE, THE EVALUATION WILL BE BASED ON AN ORAL EXAM (TYPICAL DURATION: 45 MINUTES) COMPRISING:
- PRELIMINARY DISCUSSION ON THE RESULTS OF A TUTORIAL ACTIVITY (TYPICAL DURATION: 15 MINUTES);
- INTERVIEW IN WHICH THE LEVEL OF THE STUDENT'S THEORETICAL KNOWLEDGE IS ASSESSED ON COURSE TOPICS (TYPICAL DURATION: 30 MINUTES).

THE ORAL EXAMINATION IS ALSO AIMED AT DEEPENING THE AUTONOMY OF ANALYSIS AND JUDGMENT AND THE STUDENT'S PRESENTATION SKILLS.

THE EVALUATION OF THE EXAM TAKES INTO ACCOUNT THE COMPLETENESS, CLARITY AND ACCURACY OF THE ANSWERS, AS WELL AS THE READINESS DEMONSTRATED BY THE STUDENT IN THE PRESENTATION OF THE TOPICS COVERED. THE FINAL GRADE, EXPRESSED IN THIRTIETHS WITH POSSIBLE PRAISE, IS NOT OBTAINED AS THE AVERAGE OF THE TWO TESTS. THE MINIMUM LEVEL OF ASSESSMENT (18) IS ASSIGNED WHEN THE STUDENT HAS A PIECEMEAL KNOWLEDGE OF THE TOPICS COVERED AND SHOWS A LIMITED ABILITY TO USE THEM IN THE CONTEXT OF THE STUDY. THE MAXIMUM LEVEL (30) IS ASSIGNED WHEN THE STUDENT DEMONSTRATES A COMPLETE AND IN-DEPTH KNOWLEDGE OF THE METHODOLOGIES AND TOOLS AND HAS A CONSIDERABLE ABILITY TO USE THEM IN THE CONTEXT OF STUDY. PRAISE IS GIVEN WHEN THE CANDIDATE DEMONSTRATES SIGNIFICANT MASTERY OF METHODOLOGIES AND TOOLS AND SHOWS CONSIDERABLE OWNERSHIP OF LANGUAGE AND AUTONOMOUS PROCESSING SKILLS EVEN IN CONTEXTS DIFFERENT FROM THOSE PROPOSED BY THE TEACHER.
