Objectives
THE COURSE OF GENERAL PATHOLOGY HAS THE OBJECTIVE TO PROVIDE THE STUDENT WITH THE MASTERY OF MEDICAL TERMINOLOGY AND START TO UNDERSTAND THE FUNDAMENTAL PATHOLOGICAL PROCESSES THAT UNDERLIE DISEASES. IN PARTICULAR, AT THE END OF THE COURSE THE STUDENT MUST DEMONSTRATE:
KNOWLEDGE AND UNDER STANDING OF THE:
-ENDOGENOUS AND EXOGENOUS ETIOLOGICAL FACTORS RESPONSIBLE FOR ALTERATIONS OF CELL FUNCTION;
-CELLULAR AND MOLECULAR MECHANISMS OF PATHOLOGICAL PROCESSES;
-DEFENSIVE RESPONSES OF THE ORGANISM;
-CONTROL OF CELL PROLIFERATION AND APOPTOSIS;
-MECHANISMS OF NEOPLASTIC CELL TRANSFORMATION IN RELATION TO THE CAUSES OF CARCINOGENESIS;
-PATHO-PHYSIOLOGY OF METABOLIC DISEASES AND MAJOR ORGANS AND SYSTEMS.

APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING:
ABILITY TO DISTINGUISH THE BASIS OF HUMAN DISEASES ARISING FROM GENETIC, INFLAMMATORY, INFECTIOUS, IMMUNE OR METABOLIC IMBALANCE OR FROM NEOPLASTIC TRANSFORMATION. ABILITY TO ORIENT IN THE SELECTION OF CLASSES OF DRUGS THAT LEAD TO CONTROL OR REGRESSION OF THE CELLULAR AND MOLECULAR PROCESSES UNDERLYING THE PATHOGENESIS.

MAKING JUDGEMENTS
ABILITY TO PERCEIVE THE SOCIAL IMPACT OF DIFFERENT DISEASES, THE RISK OF TRANSMISSION OR INFECTION, THE ROLE OF A PROPER EVALUATION OF THE CAUSES OF DISEASE IN THE DEFINITION OF THERAPEUTIC TREATMENTS

COMMUNICATION SKILLS
ABILITY TO SIMPLY AND COMPLETELY EXPOSE THE MECHANISMS OF PATHOLOGY, THE POSSIBILITY OF IDENTIFYING THE CAUSES, THE POTENTIAL TARGETS OF THERAPY. ABILITY TO DISSEMINATE THE CONTENTS LEARNED

LEARNING SKILLS
ABILITY TO IMPROVE THE KNOWLEDGE GAINED BY CONSULTING THE UPDATED BIBLIOGRAPHY, SCIENTIFIC ADVANCES PRESENTED IN WORKSHOPS AND SPECIFIC LITERATURE, PROFESSIONAL WEBSITES AND TEXTS.
Prerequisites
KNOWLEDGE OF THE BASIC THEORETICAL PRINCIPLES OF GENERAL AND INORGANIC CHEMISTRY, MATHEMATICS, PHYSICS, ANIMAL BIOLOGY AND HUMAN ANATOMY, ORGANIC CHEMISTRY, BIOCHEMISTRY AND APPLIED GENERAL, GENERAL PHYSIOLOGY

More Information
THE FREQUENCY OF THE COURSE AND EXPERIMENTS EXECUTION ARE HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. A SATISFACTORY PREPARATION TAKES ON AVERAGE AT LEAST TWO HOURS OF STUDY FOR EACH HOUR SPENT IN THE CLASSROOM. GIVEN THE CONTINUOUS SCIENTIFIC PROGRESS IN THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE CELLULAR AND MOLECULAR MECHANISMS AT THE BASIS OF HUMAN DISEASE, INSIGHTS ABOUT THE TOPICS COVERED CAN BE OBTAINED FROM TEACHERS IN THE SECTOR MED/04
