Objectives
THE COURSE AIMS TO PROVIDE THE STUDENT WITH THE MEDICAL TERMINOLOGY USEFUL FOR INTERACTING WITH PATIENTS, MEDICAL AND HEALTHCARE PERSONNEL; THE AWARENESS OF PROFESSIONAL AND CLINICAL RISK AND THE PRINCIPLES OF ITS MANAGEMENT IN DIAGNOSTIC AND RESEARCH LABORATORIES; THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE MAIN ANALYTICAL PARAMETERS USED IN CLINICAL PRACTICE IN THE SCREENING PHASE OR IN FIRST INSTANCE DIAGNOSTIC EVALUATIONS

AT THE END OF THE COURSE THE STUDENT WILL KNOW:
-THE PRINCIPLES OF GENERAL AND CLINICAL MEDICAL TERMINOLOGY AS A FUNCTION OF SPECIFIC ETIO-PATHOGENESIS
-THE PRINCIPLES OF METROLOGICAL TERMINOLOGY USED IN BIOMEDICAL AND DIAGNOSTIC LABORATORIES
- THE PRINCIPLES AND METHODS OF CONTROL AND MANAGEMENT OF OCCUPATIONAL AND CLINICAL RISKS IN DIAGNOSTIC AND RESEARCH LABORATORIES
- THE METHODS OF INTERPRETATION OF FIRST INSTANCE HEMATOLOGICAL AND SEROLOGICAL ANALYZES COMMONLY USED IN CLINICAL PRACTICE

AT THE END OF THE COURSE THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO:
-USE APPROPRIATE TERMINOLOGY TO CLEARLY AND PROFESSIONALLY INTERACT WITH THIRD PARTIES SUCH AS DOCTORS, PATIENTS, HEALTHCARE PERSONNEL AND RESEARCHERS
- PERCEIVE THE SOCIAL AND CLINICAL IMPACT OF THE CORRECT EXECUTION, EVALUATION AND TRANSMISSION OF THE RESULTS OBTAINED IN THE LABORATORY
- READ AND FRAME FOR DIAGNOSTIC SUSPICION THE REPORTS OF COMMON ANALYTICAL PROFILES, USED IN HEMATOLOGY AND SEROLOGY, ACCORDING TO THE REFERENCE VALUES, THRESHOLD VALUES, ALARM VALUES, CRITICAL VALUES
Prerequisites
KNOWLEDGE OF THE BASIC THEORETICAL PRINCIPLES OF GENERAL AND INORGANIC CHEMISTRY, MATHEMATICS, PHYSICS, GENERAL BIOLOGY, HUMAN ANATOMY, BIOCHEMISTRY, PHYSIOLOGY, GENERAL PATHOLOGY.
Contents
GENERAL MEDICAL TERMINOLOGY (5 HOURS): SYMPTOMS, SIGNS, SYNDROMES, DISEASES, CLINICAL TERMINOLOGY AS A FUNCTION OF ETIOLOGY THROUGH ANATOMICAL, PATHOPHYSIOLOGICAL AND EVIDENCE-BASED COGNITIVE MODELS; METROLOGICAL TERMINOLOGY IN THE BIOMEDICAL LABORATORY, TRUENESS, ACCURACY, PRECISION, SENSITIVITY, SPECIFICITY, BIAS.
BIOMEDICAL RISK (5 HOURS): PROFESSIONAL RISK, PRINCIPLES OF BIOLOGICAL AND CHEMICAL RISK ASSESSMENT; CLINICAL RISK, PRINCIPLES OF EVALUATION OF ANALYTICAL AND DIAGNOSTIC ERRORS, ANALYTICAL AND POST-ANALYTICAL VARIABILITY, INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL QUALITY CONTROLS
PRINCIPLES OF CLINICAL DIAGNOSTICS (14 HOURS): BIOLOGICAL SAMPLES AND EXECUTABLE INVESTIGATIONS, NORMAL VALUES AND REFERENCE LIMITS, REPORTING AND CRITICAL EVALUATION; INTERPRETATION OF THE MOST COMMON DIAGNOSTIC PROFILES IN CLINICAL PRACTICE, BLOOD COUNT, ERYTHROCYTE PARAMETERS, LEUKOCYTE FORMULA, QPE, URINALYSIS, GLYCEMIC, LIPID, SERUM-IMMUNOLOGICAL ALTERATIONS, INFLAMMATORY MARKERS, NEOPLASTIC RISK MARKERS, TUMOR MARKERS.
Teaching Methods
THE TEACHING PROVIDES FRONTAL LESSONS FOR 24 TOTAL HOURS (3 CFU), WHICH ARE PERFORMED IN THE CLASSROOM THROUGH SLIDE PROJECTION. ATTENDANCE OF CLASSROOM LESSONS IS COMPULSORY. TO TAKE THE FINAL EVALUATION, THE STUDENT MUST HAVE ATTENDED AT LEAST 70% OF THE TEACHING HOURS
Verification of learning
THE ACHIEVEMENT OF THE TEACHING OBJECTIVES IS VERIFIED THROUGH AN ORAL EXAM EVALUATED AS QUALIFYING EXAMINATION. THE DURATION OF THE ORAL TEST IS AVERAGE OF 20-30 MINUTES DURING WHICH THE UNDERSTANDING OF THE LEARNED PRINCIPLES, THE LEVEL OF PROFESSIONAL SPEAKING AND MEDICAL TERMINOLOGY, THE ABILITY TO ASSESS SITUATIONS OF PROFESSIONAL RISK AND ANALYTICAL BIAS, THE ABILITY TO IDEENTIFY PATHOLOGICAL ALTERATIONS THROUGH DIAGNOSTIC REPORTS COMMONLY USED IN THE CLINICAL PRACTICE.

More Information
THE ATTENDANCE AT CLASSES IS MANDATORY. A SATISFACTORY PREPARATION TAKES ON AVERAGE AT LEAST TWO HOURS OF STUDY FOR EACH HOUR SPENT IN THE CLASSROOM. GIVEN THE CONTINUOUS SCIENTIFIC PROGRESS IN THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE CELLULAR AND MOLECULAR MECHANISMS AT THE BASIS OF HUMAN DISEASE, INSIGHTS ABOUT THE TOPICS COVERED CAN BE OBTAINED FROM TEACHERS IN THE SECTOR MED/04
