THE COURSE AIMS TO PROVIDE ADEQUATE GENERAL KNOWLEDGE OF GREEK AND LATIN RHETORIC; TO CONSOLIDATE LINGUISTIC SKILLS THROUGH THE DIRECT READING OF TEXTS ADDRESSED IN A RHETORICAL PERSPECTIVE, IN THE ORIGINAL LANGUAGES; TO PLACE TEXTS, AUTHORS AND PHENOMENA WITHIN A TRADITION OF GENRES AND A BROADER CULTURAL AND HISTORICAL CONTEXT. KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING HE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO - APPLY THE ACQUIRED KNOWLEDGE ABOUT GREEK AND LATIN TEXTS AND THEIR COLLOCATION AND CHARACTERIZATION IN THE PANORAMA OF RHETORIC - UNDERSTAND AND DISCUSS, WITH CORRECT TERMINOLOGY, ASPECTS AND TOPICS RELATED TO THE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE RESEARCH PROCESS - ACQUIRE THE BASICS OF AN ECLECTIC AND VERSATILE COGNITIVE ABILITY - INTERACT WITH THE CONTRIBUTION OF CONTIGUOUS DISCIPLINARY AREAS. ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO: - START AN AUTONOMOUS PROCESS OF ELABORATION OF THE ACQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, LINKING ITS ORIGINS FROM DIFFERENT FIELDS. AUTONOMY OF JUDGEMENT THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE, THROUGH THE INVESTIGATIVE TOOLS ACQUIRED, TO FORM AN AUTONOMOUS JUDGMENT AROUND THE VARIOUS THEMES ESTABLISHED BY THE GREEK-LATIN TRADITION, THE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE DISCIPLINE AND THE PROPOSED TEXTS. COMMUNICATION SKILLS THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO REPRESENT AND COMMUNICATE, IN A CLEAR MANNER, WITH ADEQUATE TECHNICAL LANGUAGE, USING TEXTS OR VIRTUAL TOOLS, THE RESULTS OF RESEARCH OR OWN ELABORATIONS CONDUCTED ACCORDING TO CORRECT INVESTIGATION METHODS. LEARNING ABILITY THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO: - USE TRADITIONAL BIBLIOGRAPHIC TOOLS AND THE RESOURCES FOR ANALYSIS AND ARCHIVING - CARRY OUT RESEARCH ACTIVITIES, UNDERSTAND, INTERPRET AND CLASSIFY COMPLEX LITERARY AND PARALITERARY TEXTS OF GREEK AND LATIN RHETORIC OR RELATED - PROCEED TO THE CONTINUOUS UPDATING OF ONE'S KNOWLEDGE, USING THE SCIENTIFIC LITERATURE AND THE LITERARY PRODUCTION OF EACH ERA IN A CONTINUOUS INTERACTIVE DIALOGUE. |

THE COURSE WILL FOCUS ON SOME ASPECTS OF THE FIGURE OF ODYSSEUS 'RHETOR', THROUGH THE READING AND ANALYSIS OF SOME SELECTED TEXTS, FROM THE ARCHAIC PERIOD TO THE LATE ANTIQUITY, AMONG THE MANY IN WHICH THE REPRESENTATION HIGHLIGHTS THIS PARTICULAR TRAIT OF THE HERO, ABLE TO PRONOUNCE 'WORDS AS DENSE AS SNOWFLAKES IN WINTER' (IL. 3, 222). |
