Objectives
THE COURSE IS DEVELOPED THROUGH AN ARCHITECTURAL LABORATORY IN WHICH THROUGH THE MAKING AND THROUGH THEORETICAL REFLECTIONS PROVIDED BY THE LECTURES, THE ARCHITECTURAL PROJECT IS EXPERIENCED AS A NO LINEAR PROCESS WITH THE FOLLOWING OBJECTIVES:
TO LEARN THAT THE ARCHITECTURAL PROJECT IS DEVELOPED THROUGH A SYSTEM OF RELATIONSHIPS AND AS A RESPONSE TO THE SITE CONDITION – INTENDED BOTH IN THE PHYSICAL AND CULTURAL MEANINGS; ACQUIRE CAPACITIES TO READ ARCHITECTURAL PROJECTS IN RELATION TO THE DESIGN TOPIC, TO THE SPACIAL SEQUENCES AND TO THE RELATIONSHIP SYSTEMS; ACQUIRE THE CAPACITY TO CONTROL COMPLEX PROJECTS AT DIFFERENT SCALES; ACQUIRE CAPACITY IN WORKING WITH VOLUMES AND VOIDS; ACQUIRE CAPACITY TO CONTROL THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE PART AND THE WHOLE, GEOMETRY AND PROPORTIONAL RELATIONS; ACQUIRE CAPACITY TO CONTROL THE RELATIONSHIPS AMONG SPACE, STRUCTURE AND GEOMETRY; ACQUIRE SKILLS TO REPRESENT SPACIAL SOLUTIONS THROUGH THE USE OF DRAWINGS, MODELS, AND CONCEPTUAL REPRESENTATIONS.
 
EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES AND COMPETENCE TO BE ACQUIRED:

1. KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING ABILITY:
KNOWLEDGE OF SELECTED MODERN AND CONTEMPORARY DESIGN PROJECTS IDENTIFYING CONCEPTUAL, SPATIAL AND MATERIALS SOLUTIONS.
TO READ ARCHITECTURAL PROJECTS INTERPRETING THE DESIGN TOPICS; TO IDENTIFY AND DESCRIBE TOPICS AND ISSUES WITHIN URBAN FABRIC AND / OR EXISTING SITE.
 
2. APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING:
TO KNOW HOW TO COMMUNICATE TOPICS, SPACIAL SEQUENCES AND RELATIONSHIP SYSTEMS THROUGH BASIC REPRESENTATIONS (PLANS / SECTIONS / SITE PLANS / MODELS) AND THROUGH CONCEPTUAL REPRESENTATIONS
 
3. MAKING JUDGMENTS:
TO READ DESIGN TOPICS WITHIN SPACIAL LAYOUTS
 
4. COMMUNICATION SKILLS:
CAPABILITY TO WORK IN TEAM AND COMMUNICATE VERBALLY AND GRAPHICALLY ARCHITECTURAL CONCEPTS AND LAYOUTS.
 
LEARNING SKILLS:
TO APPLY THE ACQUIRED KNOWLEDGE  AND LEARN ON THE BASIS OF THE DESIGN EXPERIMENTATIONS.
Prerequisites
A) BASIC SKILLS OF SKETCHING, HAND DRAFTING AND COMPUTER DRAWING. BASIC ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN EXPERIENCE. SOME KNOWLEDGE OF HISTORY OF ARCHITECTURE. OPENNESS IN INTER-DISCIPLINARY WORK AND IN EXCHANGING KNOWLEDGE AND CRITICAL REFLECTIONS.

B) ARCHITECTURE AND ARCHITECTURAL COMPOSITION 1
Contents
THE COURSE IS DIVIDED IN TWO DIFFERENT MODULES, STRICTLY INTEGRATED ONE WITH ANOTHER: A MODULE OF 9 CREDITS, AND A MODULE OF 3 CREDITS.

THE COURSE IS CONSTITUTED OF 120 HOURS WITH 48 HOURS OF THEORETICAL REFLECTIONS THROUGH LECTURES AND SEMINARS AND WITH 72 HOURS OF LABORATORY. DURING THE LABORATORY STUDENTS WILL WORK AT THE DESIGN PROJECT ACCORDING WITH THE RECEIVED GUIDELINES AND UNDER THE TEACHER'S GUIDE; WORK WILL BE ACCOMPANIED BY REVIEWS.

CONTENTS:
THE MODULE OF 9 CREDITS, CONSTITUTED FOR 90 HOURS, CONCERNS: THE ARCHITECTURE PROJECT: THEORETICAL AND INTERPRETATIVE ISSUES, INTRODUCTION TO THE EXPERIMENTAL WORK. 2 CRED. / READING OF SELECTED DESIGN CASE-STUDIES WITH THE AIM OF INTERPRETING STRATEGIES AND PROCESSES. 3 CRED. / STUDY OF STRATEGIES AND CRITICAL REFLECTIONS. 2 CRED. / STUDY OF A COMPLEX DESIGN PROJECT OF URBAN AND TERRITORIAL IMPACT 2 CRED.

THE MODULE OF 3 CREDITS, CONSTITUTED FOR 30 HOURS, CONCERNS: ARCHITECTURAL TOPICS AND SPACIAL SOLUTIONS READ WITHIN SELECTED CONTEMPORARY DESIGN PROJECTS 1 CRED. / WORK OF IMAGES AND DIAGRAMS. 1 CRED / DESIGN PROJECT DEFINITION THROUGH MODELS, DRAWINGS AND IMAGES AT DIFFERENT SCALES 1 CRED .
Teaching Methods
THE DIDACTIC WORK WILL FOLLOW A NO-LINEAR PROCESS BASED ON A SERIES OF DESIGN STEPS, STUDIED TO GUIDE THE STUDENTS TO THE DESIGN DEVELOPMENT AND WHICH WILL GIVE OPPORTUNITIES OF REFLECTION AND EXPERIMENTATION.
THE LECTURES WILL PROVIDE THE USEFUL REFERENCES TO THE EXPERIMENTAL WORK DEVELOPED DURING THE DESIGN LABORATORY.
THE STUDIO-COURSE IS BASED ON AN EXTENSIVE USE OF MODELS IN ORDER TO UNDERSTAND SPACE IN THE 3 DIMENSIONS AND THEN ON A WORK THROUGH DRAWINGS, INITIALLY WITH THE SECTION AND LATER WITH THE PLAN.
A SPECIFIC PROJECT PROGRAM WILL BE STUDIED AT EACH SEMESTER. AT THE END OF THE SEMESTER THE STUDENTS WILL BE ASSESSED ON THE BASIS OF THE DELIVERED DESIGN PROJECT AND ON THE LABORATORY WORK CARRIED OUT.
DURING THE ACADEMIC YEAR STUDENTS WILL HAVE A SKETCH BOOK FOR SKETCHES MADE DURING THE LECTURES AND DURING THE INDIVIDUAL STUDY.

COURSE FREQUENCY IS MANDATORY (MINIMUM 70%).
Verification of learning
ALL THE DESIGN EXERCISES, THE MODELS AND THE DRAWINGS HANDED IN DURING THE YEAR WILL BE SHOWN AT AN EXHIBITION THAT WILL PROVIDE THE OPPORTUNITY FOR AN EVALUATION OF THE DESIGN PROCESS, STIMULATING DISCUSSIONS AND CRITICAL INSIGHTS WITH THE STUDENTS AND THE DESIGNERS INVITED AT THE EVENT IN QUALITY OF GUEST CRITICS.
AT THIS EVENT WILL FOLLOW AN INDIVIDUAL COLLOQUIUM, REGARDING THE TOPICS COVERED DURING THE COURSE, THE THEORETICAL READINGS AND THE STUDIED DESIGN WORKS.
THE STUDENTS WILL RECEIVE AN ASSESSMENT FOR EACH SEMESTER WORK, AND THE FINAL MARK WILL TAKE INTO ACCOUNT THE DESIGN EXERCISES, THE PERSONAL SKETCH BOOK AND THE FINAL COLLOQUIUM HELD DURING THE EXAM .
