Objectives
GENERAL OBJECTIVE-THE PURPOSE OF THE COURSE IS TO IMPART TO STUDENTS A SYSTEMIC CULTURE RELATED TO THE NATURAL AND MAN-MADE ENVIRONMENT FROM A GEOGRAPHICAL PERSPECTIVE.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITY TO UNDERSTAND - THE STUDENT, DURING THE COURSE, WILL LEARN ABOUT THE DIFFERENT FACETS OF THE ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUE AND THE THEORETICAL-METHODOLOGICAL TOOLS NEEDED TO UNDERSTAND THE DELICATE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE ECONOMY AND THE ENVIRONMENT.
ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING - AT THE END OF THE COURSE, THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO EMPLOY THE KNOWLEDGE ACQUIRED TO UNDERSTAND THE CURRENT CONTROVERSIAL DEBATE ON ENVIRONMENTAL POLICIES, INCLUDING THROUGH CRITICAL ANALYSIS OF CONCRETE EXPERIENCES.
AUTONOMY OF JUDGMENT-THE COURSE WILL ENABLE THE STUDENT TO BE ABLE TO CRITICALLY EVALUATE, THE INTERACTIONS THAT EXIST BETWEEN PUBLIC POLICIES, ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT INITIATIVES AND ECONOMIC PROCESSES.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS - THE STUDENT WILL ACQUIRE SUITABLE LANGUAGE TO COMMUNICATE CLEARLY AND UNAMBIGUOUSLY THE COMPLEXITY OF THE CHANGES AFFECTING THE ENVIRONMENT AND THE WAYS IN WHICH THE COMMUNITY RELATES TO IT.
LEARNING SKILLS-THE COURSE WILL PROVIDE THE STUDENT WITH ADEQUATE LEARNING SKILLS THAT WILL ENABLE HIM OR HER TO CONTINUE TO INDEPENDENTLY INVESTIGATE THE MAIN ISSUES IN THE DISCIPLINE IN ORDER TO DEVELOP ORIGINAL IDEAS TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE SOLUTION OF THE CURRENT ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUE.

THE COURSE AIMS TO PROVIDE THE TOOLS FOR ANALYSING INTERACTIONS BETWEEN THE ENVIRONMENT AND THE ECONOMIC SYSTEM, TO RAISE AWARENESS OF THE DIFFERENT FORMS OF PREVENTIVE AND CORRECTIVE PUBLIC INTERVENTION. SUBSEQUENTLY, THE COURSE WILL DEAL WITH THE USE OF ENVIRONMENTAL RESOURCES AND THE CONCEPT OF SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT AT GLOBAL SCALE IN THE SEARCH FOR STRATEGIES COMPATIBLE WITH THE SAFEGUARDING OF THE ENVIRONMENT. THE PROGRAMME OF THE COURSE, BASED ON A MULTIDISCIPLINARY APPROACH, ENVISAGES IN DEPTH ANALYSES OF THE FOLLOWING ISSUES:
•ENVIRONMENTAL REPRESENTATIONS (5 HOURS);
•THE ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUE INTERPRETED FROM A SYSTEMS PERSPECTIVE (5 HOURS);
•ENVIRONMENTAL DEGRADATION (5 HOURS) ;
•EVOLVING RELATIONS BETWEEN ENVIRONMENT AND DEVELOPMENT (10 HOURS);
•CONCEPTS AND SUBJECTS OF ENVIRONMENTAL POLICIES (10 HOURS);
•THE TOOLS OF ENVIRONMENTAL POLICIES (5 HOURS).
Teaching Methods
GIVEN THAT STUDENTS SHOULD ACQUIRE THEORETICAL AND METHODOLOGICAL KNOWLEDGE, TEACHING WILL BE IN FORM OF FRONTAL LESSONS (40 HOURS).
Verification of learning
THE VERIFICATION OF THE LEARNING WILL HAPPEN THROUGH THE ORAL INTERVIEW ON THE CONTENTS OF THE CURSE. THE VOTE IS DETERMINED BY THE LEVEL OF THE PERFORMANCE FOR EACH OF THE FOLLOWING DIMENSIONS OF THE ORAL EXPOSURE: MASTERY OF THE CONTENTS, APPROPRIATENESS OF THE DEFINITIONS AND THE THEORETICAL REFERENCES, CLARITY OF THE TO DEDUCE, DOMINION OF THE SPECIALISTIC LANGUAGE.
