Objectives
GENERAL OBJECTIVE-THE PURPOSE OF THE COURSE IS TO PROVIDE THE TOOLS FOR A KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING OF ISSUES PERTAINING TO THE DYNAMICS OF THE INTERNATIONAL ECONOMY ON A GLOBAL SCALE.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITY TO UNDERSTAND - BY THE END OF THE COURSE, THE STUDENT WILL BE FAMILIAR WITH THE ROLE PLAYED BY THE VARIOUS PLAYERS IN THE GLOBAL ECONOMY AND, THEREFORE, BE ABLE TO UNDERSTAND ASPECTS RELATED TO THE CHANGES THAT HAVE AFFECTED THE WORLD ECONOMIC SYSTEM AT DIFFERENT GEOGRAPHICAL SCALES.
ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING - THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO UNDERSTAND AND EVALUATE THE PROCESSES THAT DETERMINE THE TRANSFORMATIONS OF THE ECONOMIC SYSTEM AND ITS GEOGRAPHICAL IMPLICATIONS, AS WELL AS THE SIMILARITIES AND DIFFERENCES RELATED TO THE CONTEXTUAL PROCESSES OF GLOBALIZATION AND REGIONALIZATION, IDENTIFYING THE STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES OF DEVELOPMENT POLICIES AT VARIOUS GEOGRAPHICAL SCALES.
AUTONOMY OF JUDGMENT - THE STUDENT WILL ACHIEVE ANALYTICAL AND CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS USEFUL FOR REFLECTING ON THE EVOLUTIONARY PATTERNS OF THE CURRENT WORLD ECONOMIC SYSTEM, IN ORDER TO PROPOSE SOME INTERPRETATIVE KEYS TO THE DIFFERENT REGIONAL ECONOMIC SYSTEMS.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS-THE STUDENT WILL ACQUIRE-THROUGH PROPER USE OF GEOGRAPHIC LANGUAGE-APPROPRIATE COMMUNICATION SKILLS AIMED AT CLEARLY AND COMPREHENSIVELY ILLUSTRATING THE COMPLEXITY OF THE CONCEPTS LEARNED IN THE COURSE.
ABILITY TO LEARN - THE STUDENT SHOULD DEMONSTRATE A GOOD ABILITY TO LEARN THE TOPICS EXAMINED IN THE COURSE, INCLUDING THROUGH REFERENCE TO THE VARIOUS BIBLIOGRAPHICAL REFERENCES.

THE COURSE PROGRAMME INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING TOPICS:
- THE WORLD SYSTEM AND THE CURRENT GEOGRAPHY OF THE MARKETS (5 HOURS);
- GEO-ECONOMIC SPACE: TERRITORY, REGIONS, NETWORKS (5 HOURS);
- RECENT CHANGES IN THE WORLD ECONOMIC SYSTEM (5 HOURS);
- LIBERALISM AND NEW PLAYERS IN WORLD TRADE (5 HOURS);
- INTERNATIONAL TRADE: GOODS AND SERVICE FLOWS (10 HOURS);
- ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT POLICIES (10 HOURS).
Teaching Methods
GIVEN THAT STUDENTS NEED TO ACQUIRE BOTH THEORETICAL AND METHODOLOGICAL KNOWLEDGE, TUITION AND TRAINING WILL CONSIST MAINLY OF LECTURES (40 HOURS).
Verification of learning
ASSESSMENT WILL BE BASED ON A DISCUSSION OF THE COURSE CONTENTS. MARKS WILL BE AWARDED BASED ON THE LEVEL OF PERFORMANCE FOR EACH OF THE FOLLOWING ELEMENTS OF THE ORAL TEST: RANGE OF KNOWLEDGE OF THE CONTENTS, APPROPRIACY OF DEFINITIONS AND THEORETICAL REFERENCES, CLARITY OF THE ARGUMENT, PREPARATION IN TEMS OF SPECIALIST TECHNICAL LANGUAGE AND TERMINOLOGY.
