Objectives
THE COURSE AIMS AT PROVIDING AN IN-DEPTH KNOWLEDGE OF THE GREEK ANCIENT LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE AND TO OFFERS THE TOOLS TO CRITICALLY INTERPRET GREEK LITERARY TEXTS AND TO COPE WITH THE PROBLEMS OF THE HISTORY OF GREEK LITERATURE.

KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
THE STUDENT:
-WILL DEEPLY KNOW THE ANCIENT GREEK LANGUAGE (VOCABULARY, MORPHOLOGY, SYNTAXIS, PROSODY, METRICS), AS ATTESTED BY LITERARY TEXTS
-WILL DEEP KNOW OF THE HISTORY OF GREEK LITERATURE, FROM VIII CENT. BCE TO VI CENT. CE, IN THE FRAME OF ANCIENT GREEK CULTURE, WITH SPECIAL ATTENTION TO THE OCCASIONS AND MODES OF PERFORMANCES, GENRES, CONTENTS AND FORMS, EVOLUTION OF THE COMMUNICATIONAL AND HISTORIC-LITERARY CONTEXTS
-WILL KNOW THE BASIC RESEARCH METHODS AND TOOLS OF THE HISTORY OF LITERATURE IN THIS CHRONOLOGICAL PERIOD, WITH SPECIAL REFERENCE TO THE ONLINE RESOURCES
-WILL COPE WITH THE PROBLEMS AND PROSPECTIVE OF THE HISTORY OF THE GREEK LITERATURE AND TO UNDERSTAND THE RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN LITERATURE AND OTHER COMPONENTS OF GREEK CULTURE (SCIENCE, MUSIC, PHILOSOPHY, FINE ARTS), WITHIN THE GENERAL FRAMEWORK OF SOCIAL, POLITICAL AND ECONOMIC HISTORY OF THE ANCIENT WORLD.

APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO:
-DEEPLY ANALYZE AND INTERPRET GREEK LITERARY TEXTS, PUT THEM IN THE CONTEXT OF THE AUTHOR’S WORKS, OF THE LITERARY GENRE AND OF THE HISTORICAL PERIOD, ALSO WITH REFERENCE TO INTERTEXTUALITY
-ACT PROFESSIONALLY IN THE FIELD OF CLASSICAL STUDIES, USING TOOLS FROM SPECIAL DISCIPLINES
-FACE THE SELECTION PROCEDURES FOR ACCESS TO THE TEACHING OF GREEK IN CLASSICAL HIGH SCHOOL
-USE THE MAIN ICT TOOLS FOR STUDYING GREEK LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE
- ANALYZE COMPLEX SITUATIONS IN STUDY AND/OR WORK CONTEXTS

MAKING JUDGEMENTS
THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO:
-AUTONOMOUSLY APPROACH THEMES AND PROBLEMS OF THE GREEK LITERATURE (ALSO IN AN INTERDISCIPLINARY PERSPECTIVE), WITH A CRITICAL USE OF EXISTING BIBLIOGRAPHY
-PROPOSE NEW AND PERSONAL INTERPRETATION OF GREEK TEXTS AND OF VARIOUS ASPECTS OF THE GREEK LITERATURE
- CRITICALLY REFLECT ON THE METHODOLOGIES USED IN INTERPRETING GREEK TEXTS AND ON THE POSSIBLE PUBLIC EFFECTS OF HIS INTERPRETATIVE PROPOSALS

COMMUNICATION SKILLS
THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO:
-EXPLAIN A GREEK TEXT IN A CORRECT AND UNDERSTANDABLE WAY, ALSO IN RELATION WITH DIFFERENT AUDIENCE TYPES
- PRESENT LITERARY GENRES AND PERIODS OF THE GREEK LITERATURE IN A CLEAR WAY

READING IN THE ORIGINAL LANGUAGE, TRANSLATION INTO ITALIAN, LINGUISTIC, EXEGETICAL AND HISTORICAL-LITERARY COMMENTARY OF THE GREEK TEXTS ARE REQUIRED.
Teaching Methods
45 HOURS OF LECTURES, THAT WILL BE DEVOTED TO READING, IN THE ORIGINAL LANGUAGE, TRANSLATION INTO ITALIAN LINGUISTIC, CONTENT AND FORMAL ANALYSIS, EXEGETICAL AND HISTORICAL-LITERARY COMMENTARY OF THE TEXTS INCLUDED IN THE PROGRAMME.
THE LESSONS ARE CONDUCTED WITH PARTICIPATORY METHOD AND CLASSROOM DISCUSSION ON TEXTS AND THEIR PROBLEMS.
Verification of learning
ORAL EXAM (LASTING ABOUT 40 MINUTES) TO TEST THE ABILITY TO TRANSLATE, ANALYZE AND COMMENT (BOTH ON LINGUISTIC AND LITERARY LEVEL) THE GREEK TEXTS OBJECT OF THE COURSE AND TO PLACE THEM WITHIN THEIR HISTORICAL-CULTURAL CONTEXT.
THERE IS AN OPTIONAL INTERNAL ORAL TEST IN WHICH STUDENTS WILL BE EXAMINED ON ONE OR TWO SECTIONS OF THE PROGRAM OF THEIR CHOICE. THE EVALUATION OF THE TEST WILL CONTRIBUTE PROPORTIONALLY TO THE FINAL EVALUATION.
