Objectives
TEACHING AIMS TO MAKE THE STUDENT ACQUIRE CRITICAL AND
METHODOLOGICAL TOOLS THAT MAKE IT POSSIBLE FOR THEM TO EXAMINE THE ROLE THAT LANGUAGE PLAYS IN
RELATION TO OTHER AREAS OF HUMAN EXPERIENCE
AT THE END OF THE LECTURES THE STUDENT WILL:
- WILL KNOW A CLASSIC THEME OF PHILOSOPHICAL-LINGUISTIC REFLECTION IN ITS
THEORETICAL ARTICULATION AND, AT LEAST PARTIALLY, IN ITS HISTORICAL EVOLUTION.
- WILL UNDERSTAND THE CONNECTION BETWEEN HISTORY AND THEORY IN THE ANALYSIS OF LANGUAGE.
THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO:
- ANALYZE PHILOSOPHICAL-LINGUISTIC TEXTS OF MEDIUM COMPLEXITY.
- DISCUSS THE THEORIES CONTAINED IN THEM.
- APPLY LOGICAL-ARGUMENTATIVE TOOLS TO A SPECIFIC OBJECT OF ANALYSIS.
THE STUDENT WILL DEVELOP CONCEPTUAL TOOLS AND CRITICAL SKILLS USEFUL FOR EVALUATING,
ANALYZE AND INTERPRET INDEPENDENTLY THE SOURCES AND METHODOLOGICAL ISSUES
SPECIFIC TO THIS, AS TO OTHER RELATED DISCIPLINES.
THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO COMMUNICATE HIS OR HER KNOWLEDGE AND PROCESSING SKILLS
CONCEPTUAL AT DIFFERENT LEVELS (BOTH TO AN AUDIENCE OF EXPERTS AND ONE OF NON-
SPECIALISTS), EXPRESSING THEM WITH LANGUAGE PROPERTIES AND LEXICAL SKILLS
SPECIFICS, AND USING THE MOST APPROPRIATE REGISTER FOR EACH CIRCUMSTANCE.
THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO UNDERSTAND AND INTERPRET COMPLEX TEXTS AND USE THE
BIBLIOGRAPHICAL TOOLS, BOTH TRADITIONAL AND COMPUTER-BASED, TO IDENTIFY AND SELECT THE
SCIENTIFIC LITERATURE USEFUL FOR THE ENHANCEMENT OF THEIR CONO

DURING THE ORAL EXAM, STUDENTS WILL HAVE TO DEMONSTRATE NOT ONLY A GOOD COMMAND OF THE MATERIAL CONTAINED IN THE REFERENCE TEXTS BUT ALSO THE ABILITY TO ARGUE (ALBEIT AT AN ELEMENTARY LEVEL) FOR OR AGAINST THE POSITIONS PRESENTED AND TO APPLY THEIR ARGUMENTATIVE SKILLS IN SOLVING SIMPLE PROBLEMS. THE FINAL JUDGMENT WILL MAINLY TAKE INTO ACCOUNT THE STUDENT'S ARGUMENTATIVE SKILLS.
